However, since the dawn of creation their have been creatures that tap into this source and bend it to their will. Magic can normally be defined as one of the following.
- Infernal/Unholy - corrupting magic used by evil gods and demons
- Divine/Holy - protective and "righteous" magic used by the good gods and angels
- Primal Nature - "Earthly" magic tied to the elements, used by the fae
- Preternatural - Cthulhu-esque magic that perverts nature
- Hermetic - "vanilla" magic used by all magic-users
- "True Magic" - this magic is untainted by its users. It's powerful and dangerous.
- Technomancy - this is a new style of magic that is a blending of science and the mystic
Earth has always been protected by a "Dream Master." This is the powerful sorcerer who serves as a mystic guardian. No one is sure how the Dream Master is chosen, but all know that he's needed. Rarely these guardians have fallen, and when they do they spell trouble for mankind.
There is another mystic source of protection on Earth. The Golden Dawn is the latest incarnation of the the Society of Sorcerers, an ancient self-policing society of good and neutrel mages.
Here a few evil arcane groups:
The Graveyard Gang - To call the GG evil, may be an overstatement. They are definately chaotic though. Led by the goth teen , Livia Dark, the group is made up of outcast creatures of the night, such as the King (think vampire Elvis), Abra Cadaver (vaudville skeleton), and Otis Ra (Livia's mummy slave).
Circle Seven - Circle Seven is the most brutal death metal band EVER! The bands rise in popularity and power is related to an infernal bargain. The band basically has diplomatic immunity, do to its horde of money and army of infernal lawyers.
The Blood Kings - The Blood Kings are an ancient, international aristocracy of vampires. They portray themselves as noble sovereigns (and a very few are), but they are predominantly cold monsters.
The Brotherhood of the Yellow Sign - cult surrounding a strange mystic, the Yellow Lama, and served by the degenerate Tcho-Tcho's of the Himalayan Mts.
The Thule Society - group of dark sorcerers tied to the Knights Templar and later the Nazis.
Nyaralathotep and the Avatars - the devious "group" of villains is maded up of various avatars of the Crawling Chaos and his worshipers.
Since the gods exist publicly in my universe they have their own organized religion. However, despite the fact they've returned to Earth, they aren't as strong as they once were (due to the "War of the Gods" with the Lovecraftian Outer Gods). The group refer to themselves as the Pantheon. The most vocal members of the group are listed below:
- Nodens (mortal ascended to the god's power)
- Baron Samedi
- The Monkey King
On a less serious note, a few of the more free spirited gods (at the urging on the Monkey King) have banded together and embraced the youth and counter cultures. They are a sort of Jackass/Viva La Bam-esque crew. Notable members are:
