Plane Shift: Innistrad

The second Magic: The Gathering/Dungeons and Dragons crossover is live!

Plane Shift: Innistrad is a full color, free 40 page pdf for 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons.

It starts with two pages about the World of Innistrad.

This is followed by Life in Innistrad. Humans are the only player race in Innistrad, but we are given four provincial origins (which are essentially subraces). Those from Gavony are standard 5e humans (+1 to all stats). The self-reliant Kessig gain training in survival and nice features that allow them to be great hit and run fights. The studios humans of Nephalia gain proficiency in 4 extra skills and/or tools. Finally, living in the shadows of the vampiric families has made the Stensians hard hearted, they gain proficiency in Intimidate and get 2 extra hit points a level. A break down of the classes in Innistrad is next. We also get a few pages about the Church of Avacyn and the Inquisitor background.

The next chapter, Creatures of the Night, is my favorite. We are presented with a page or two about the (classic horror) monsters of Innistrad. Most of these sections discuss reskinning 5e monsters, like in Plane Shift: Zendikar. The werewolf section gives stats for a werewolf of one of the common packs Krallenhorde as well as pack traits for some of the other packs. The Vampire section gives stats for neonate vampires and rules for creating vampire elders. Next we are presented with geists, which are ghosts. We get geist stats and alternate abilities. Other sections of note are the alternate flesh golem abilities to create skaabs and the creepy doll stats. Finally angels are mentioned. Angels are a special part of Innistrad, since the primary religion is centered around the Archangel Avacyn. Abilities for the various flights are given. Her madness, the major plot point of Shadows Over Innistrad, is discussed.

The next chapter is The Coming of Emrakul. This short chapter discusses how the eldrazi has tainted the plane and supplements the madness and corruption rules from the DMG.

Finally we have Curse of Innistrad. This essentially gives several ideas for making Barovia a part of Innistrad. This is pretty cool and using this with Zendikar's eldrazi stuff could be a nice way to do an extended Ravenloft game.

I am super pleased with this pdf. Innistrad is my favorite Magic: The Gathering setting and I love gothic horror. Download it now and enjoy it yourself.

  2. Was just wondering today when this might be out! Looks like another great (free!) product, and the section on working in Barovia makes it even more of a winner.

    1. This is so much win. My Curse of Strahd game is ongoing, but I know I can snag stuff from this.

  4. I was really curious about this, thanks for giving the breakdown, Pun. Wouldn't it be cool to run a campaign that encompassed multiple planes from MTG?
