Overwatch 2 Animated Shorts and Cinematics

As I said yesterday, I wanted to share the more current Overwatch animation.

The Wastelander features Junker Queen and a cameo by Junk Rat (who was one of my favorite characters when I played).
Kirkiko focuses on the titular character protecting her home. Next to Soldier 76's hero, this might be my favorite and is one of the best superhero-esque shorts.
Calling features brand new hero Sojourn and ties directly into the games new Invasion story, while also tapping into the history of the setting.

Zero Hour was the announcement cinematic for Overwatch 2 and a fantastic short full of heart. Not going to spoil all the characters in it, but this is one of those videos that gave me inspirational tingles.
Fight the Invasion is the new story trailer and deals with the attack by the villainous Null Sector (who are discussed in the Overwatch Genesis shorts).

This live action trailer for the Invasion storyline introduces the Enigma... who's played by John Cena! <queue Cena's theme>

Another Invasion trailer that gives a bit more story to the event and shows off new game features.

Overwatch 5e

Here's a follow-up to my recent Overwatch post. @PirateGonzalez has done an excellent job of converting the heroes and villains to 5e. While his write-ups don't include every playable character, it includes most of them. Click the image below to go to his page where you can find image files and a compiled pdf (though this is missing the three heroes at the bottom of the page). Also, some of the lore on the characters isn't the most up-to-date (like the stuff about Soldier 76).  This is good stuff and includes stats for a variety of power levels. If you are running 5e supers, this is a great source for new heroes and villains.

More Overwatch Animated Shorts

In the past I've shared multiple Overwatch shorts. Despite falling out of love with the game, the character designs and animations are fantastic. They are great supers inspiration.  There have been many that I've not shared and I've decided to change that. I'm going to post the remainder of the original game's shorts along with links to previous posts. Tomorrow I'll post the Overwatch 2 animated shorts and trailers.

Here are some previously shared Animated shorts:

Infiltration focuses on Sombra, hacker and infiltrator for Talon, a criminal organization aligned against Overwatch. The short has cameos from other Talon members Reaper and Widowmaker and a post credits appearance by Overwatch member (and Russian muscle mommy) Zarya.

Rise and Shine focuses on Mei,  a scientist who finds herself waking up in a world where things have changed.
Shooting Star is the original of Overwatch's gamer and mech piloting wonder, D.Va.

Reunion focuses on Overwatch deadeye, Cassidy* (voiced by Matt Mercer) and his dealings with the Deadlock Gang gang and their leader Ashe. In the end he rescues Overwatch AI hero, Echo.

*He is called Jesse McCree in the short as this is what the hero was initially called. However, he was renamed Cole Cassidy after the Blizzard employee he was named after was fired because of sexual harassment allegations.

Music Monday - Play To Win

I used to love Overwatch. The characters are really cool and the game is fun. Unfortunately my friends stopped playing and the community as a whole got toxic, so I stopped. That being said I can still enjoy Overwatch related content, such as this awesome D.Va track by JTMusic

My next supers game will definitely include a hero like her.

Light City - Moira

Moira is a new Overwatch character and would make an interesting npc for a supers game. She could be a source of powers, mastermind, or something else all together.

Moira
"Surrender to my will!"

Moira O'Deorian is both a brilliant and controversial geneticist. Her ultimate goal is to move humanity to its next evolution and true potential, but the cold and calculating Moira is amoral about what it takes to reach this. She has a seat on the inner council of Talon, making her a close ally of Doom Fist.

Real Name: Moira O'Deorian
First Appearance: Overwatch (2017)
AC 7 [12]      HD: 5    Attacks: Biotic Grasp (1d6+1, range 30', can heal or deal damage) Move: 12

Moira can fade 5 times per day. This is the equivalent of the Dimension Door spell but only has a range of 30'. Once per day she can use her coalescence. This is a 30'X1' beam that heals and damages just like her biotic grasp. Moira is able to choose how the coalescence affects those caught in it. The ability lasts for 1d6 rounds.

I didn't give her the orb ability she has in game because I thought she seemed strong enough without it.

Honor and Glory

The newest Overwatch animated short is fantastic. I love Reinhardt. He's definitely my main when I play and this makes me love him even more.

If I ever play Mutants and Masterminds again, I may need to model my character after the Crusader.

Light City - Doom Fist

I've talked about it before, but I love Overwatch. Most of my friends have stopped playing it, so I don't play it as much as I used to, but I still do for a few hours a week.  Today I'm statting the newest character, Doom Fist, for Light City.

Now it's time to combine settings. Doom Fist makes a great nemesis for Black Panther. He could even tangle or team up with T'challa's ancestor, Prince Mamuwalde (my head cannon). Setting wise, I don't imagine Numbani to be a part of Wakanda, but it's probably near it. I'm sure the Wakandans have an embassy there.

Doom Fist

"Only through conflict do we evolve."

Akanda Ogundimu was born into a highly respected Nigerian family and was the heir to a prosthetic-technology company. He fought in martial arts tournaments and sought to make himself and his company stronger. During the Omnic Crisis, he lost his right arm. His company created a cybernetic prosthetic that made him even stronger, but made him ineligible for competition.

He was recruited into Talon by the second Doom Fist as a mercenary. Eventually his plans proved to be more grandiose that the second Doom First. Akanda killed his leader and took the name for himself. Doom Fist now leads the villainous organization known as Talon and seeks revenge on those that have wronged him.

Real Name: Akande Ogundimu
First Appearance: Overwatch (2017)
AC 6 [13]      HD: 7+1    Attacks: Hand Cannon (1d6+1, range 30') or Rocket Punch (2d6) Move: 12/18 (Jump)

Once per day Doom Fist can use his fist to launch into the air and then crash into the ground, doing 3d6 damage to all targets in a 7 meter radius unless the target make a successful saving throw (which allows them to take half damage)

Hanamura Showdown

Blizzard always knocks it out of the park with their cinematics. This trailer for the knew Heroes of the Storm content is no different, featuring Diablo and some familiar Overwatch scenery and faces.

Supers Inspiration - Overwatch

Lately I've been addicted to the video game Overwatch. It's a first person objective-based shooter from Blizzard Entertainment. Each character has their own unique abilities and personality. If you have a PS4 or Xbox One you can try the game for free September 9-12.

The real reason I'm posting about it though is because the game is great inspiration for things like Mutants and Masterminds or Villains and Vigilantes. It doesn't take that big of a stretch of the imagination to picture the world of Overwatch as the future of The Incredibles. Check out the various trailers and animated shorts below and see if you get the same feeling.
