October Horror Movie Challenge - Stake Land (2010)

Synopsis: America doesn't exist any more. The vamps came and wiped out civilization as we know it. To make matters worse, religious zealots kill all who won't convert. There are those that fight back though, like the fabled hunter, Mister, and his protege, Martin.

The Good: Nick Damici (Mister) and Conner Paolo (Martin) are the perfect duo in this flick. They just have a great dynamic. That bloodsuckers look scary and definitely don't sparkle and aren't gothic vamps. This movie is the perfect zombie apocalypse movie (even though its a vampire plague and not a zombie one).

The Bad: This movie gets really depressing. Like any good zombie movie, it shows us that "man is the true monster."

Final Thoughts: Yes I watched this one last year, but it is one of my favourite movies.  

In Your Game: Stake Land could make an interesting "what if" setting for Blood Dark Thirst. What happens if the savage vampires were a plague engineered by the demons that originally taught European mystics to create vampires? Would the remaining intelligent vamps revel in the carnage, or try to save the remnants of humanity? Here's your basic Stake Lands vampire for V6.

Ferals

Intelligent vampires refer to the new breed of vampires as ferals. As far as humanity is concerned, a vamp is a vamp.

Health: 30 Attack Dice Pool: 2

Special: Like typical vampires, ferals are weak against sunlight (taking 1d6 points of damage per round). They can be killed by decapitation and fire. Also, while a wooden stake through the heart only paralyzes a normal vampire, it kills a feral. Anyone bitten, but not killed by a feral will turn into a feral in 1d6 minutes.

Berserkers
Berserkers are stronger vampires that have mutated since turning. They have reinforced rib cages and can't be staked through the heart. They must be lit on fire or decapitated.

Health: 40 Attack Dice Pool: 3

Special: As a feral, though staking them through the heart is nearly impossible.

Scamp

This child vampires are more curious than others and won't immediately attack.

Health: 20 Attack Dice Pool: 1

Special: As a feral.
