October Horror Movie Challenge - Leatherface (2017)

Synopsis: A teenaged Leatherface and three other patients escape from a mental hospital, taking a young nurse hostage. They must avoid a lawman, hellbent on revenge.

The Good: Stephen Dorff is great as the lawman wanting revenge for his daughter's murder. Overall the cast does a good job in their roles. The violence is as graphic as you'd expect for one of these flicks and there are some good gore effects.

The Bad: One of the biggest issues with this movie is the basic plot. Do we really need to humanize Leatherface? The answer is no. The film does its best to surprise you on which of the teens is actually Leatherface, but it's not that big of a surprise. Also, I didn't need to see a teenage couple incorporating a corpse into a threesome.

Final Thoughts: This movie didn't need to be made. This story didn't need to be told. All that being said, I enjoyed it. It's not a great movie, but if you want to watch a road trip from Hell movie, there are worse choices.

New Weapon
Chainsaw - This melee weapon does 2d6 damage. On a natural one or twenty the chainsaw has a chance to sever a limb (weilder on a 1, target on a 20). Roll a second attack roll. If it is successful then a limb is severed. An individual with a severed limb will lose 1d4 of damage from blood loss until the wound is bandaged/cauterized.

  1. I'd say the user cutting off one of his own limbs 5% of the time seems a bit harsh! Perhaps a '1' necessitates some kind of save to avoid self-harm?

    1. Good point, maybe for both crit and fumble it requires a another attack roll and if that is successful it severs?
