October Horror Movie Challenge - Dead Ant (2017)

All films I'm watching for the challenge are currently (as of posting) viewable for free on via Tubi.

Sonic Grave is an 80's hair metal band hoping to make a big comeback. Their manager, played by Tom Arnold, books them a show at the No-Chella festival so that they can let the world know they still rock! Along the way, they purchase some legendary peyote from a Native American to get inspired. Unfortunately, they don't head his warning to harm no life and are attacked by giant ants for one of their member's bad decision.

The dvd cover of this says it's Spinal Tap meets Tremors. That's not too off the mark. The film is full of over-the-top rock humor. I think the true star of the film is Tom Arnold. His manager character, Danny, is the voice of frustrated reason to the rockers. He has some of the best lines in the movie. I think Jake Busey is a close second as the band's lead singer. He's a scene stealer too. Sean Astin shines as he always does. The film also has a great new hair metal anthem, Side Boob.

I had a few smaller complaints with the film. The CGI ants don't like great all the time. Also, Sydney Sweeney is great eye candy, but her acting skills are underutilized.

If you're looking for a fun creature flick, this is the movie for you. It's not the greatest flick, but it does a great combination of a solid B creature feature and rock'n'roll shenanigans.
