Dungeon Pets Review

I want to be the very best, like no one ever...

Wait, wrong game. Or is it? Dungeon Pets, written and illustrated by Skull Dixon is a fun addition to the rpg world. The zine introduces the humanoid octopus Marv, and his Fabulous Magical Emporium. Marv sells dungeon pets; magical critters that you can purchase.

The book includes 23 unique dungeon pets. Each pet has original artwork as well as the following information: name, health, defense, loyalty, cost, description, abilities, diet, habitat, predators, weakness, training. These critters are fantastic. Each of them is quite interesting and they are all unique. My favorite are the Necro-Hamsters.

There is a guide that further details a universal system for the pets. There is an inclusion of loyalty and training rules, allowing your character to become a Dungeon Pet master. Finally there are rules for including these dungeon pets in D&D 5e, Shadowrun 5e/6e, Runequest: Glorantha, and Traveller Mongoose 2e.

I love this zine. Skull Dixon's art is fantastic! The rules are very robust, but not overcomplicated. If you're a fan of Pokemon, Monster Rancher, or things like that, check this one out.
