Plot
Wes is a broken-hearted man. Pining over a failed relationship, he finds himself driving away from his past. Tired and fearing he might wreck, he stops at a roadside rest. He gets drunk, lets some anger out, and destroys a box full of memories. The next morning he wakes up hungover. He goes into the bathroom to throw up and soon finds himself trapped in the bathroom with a cosmic entity. The encounter will have great consequences on the fate of humanity.
Review
This one is strange in all the right ways. It's definitely Lovecraftian, but unlike the uncaring beings of that mythos, the cosmic entity of this story, Ghatanothoa (or Ghat for short), is benevolent and loves humanity. Ghat is voiced by the phenomenal JK Simmons. He's an interesting demigod and I love his backstory. As always, Simmons delivers his lines with the perfect mix of calm and emotion. Wes is portrayed by True Blood's Ryan Kwanten. The story does a great job of piecing his character together throughout the course of the picture.
Physically the movie is claustrophobic and dirty. A majority of the flick takes place is a gross roadside rest bathroom. This ick factor plays well with the requisite cosmic horror visuals. The flick has a similar color pallet to Mandy and Color Out of Space in those scenes and I appreciate that.
Finally I love the title is a play on glory hole. It's simple. It's dumb. It works. If you want a tight, personal horror flick with a mix of grossness, emotion, and a little humor, I'd check this one out.
In Your Game
I don't think this one has quite as much gameable material as some horror flicks. That being said, Ghatanothoa and the mythos surrounding his father and siblings, could be the basis for the cosmology in your game. In something like What Shadows Hide, Ghat could be a force secretly guiding C.A.R.E. on it's mission to protect humanity.
