Bree-Yark!

Goblins: Anarchy in the RPG is an upcoming Kickstarter from my friends at Bloat Games. It's written for 5e and while I don't see any direct mention of it, it looks like it's done in the current 2024 version. Update: After talking to author, Josh Palmer, I can confirm it was written in the 2024 format.

Before I get into the content, I want to talk about the design. The background of each page is black with white-bordered pink text boxes. The text itself is either black or white. While I'm sure some may find this jarring, it really makes the zine pop. Along with the name, it gives the book a great punk aesthetic. Most of the art is stock art, but its really good stock art.

Goblins tend to be used as low level fodder for games, which is cool, but they can be so much more. This zine is a toolkit to get you the most goblin bang for your goblin bucks. Most of the books content is unique goblin npc's and different variation and mutant goblins. Additionally, Josh has create species traits in case a player wants to create a goblin PC.

Something I appreciate the NPC's is there's a good mix of alignments represented. My favorite, Golloc Gloomgash is a Robinhood-esque master thief. There's also a goblin cult leader who made me chuckle. He also seems like the kind of villain I'd want to include. There are seven unique goblins to cause chaos in your game. Mixed in with those heroes and villains are fourteen goblin variations. These show how goblins can adapt to any variety of environments and also include a few goblins organizations. There's even a centaur-like goblin! The background of each includes great flavor for your games. There are also a few fun subtables. "Bree-Yark!"isn't the only goblin phrase you're going to want to include.

I don't know if it was intentional or not, but this book pairs nicely with the latest Starter Set. Even if your players have entered the Caves of Chaos in the past, you can introduce a new experience by incorporating these goblins into the tribes. I think my first D&D 2024 campaign will start with the Keep and that's my plan.

If you love goblins this zine is for you! Even if you don't like them and find them boring, I think this one will change your mind. Don't be a ebbalsmeg and back it when it launches in the next week or so.

Music Monday - Unholy (Ravenloft Version)

It's the first day of Fall and spooky season is upon us. Get in the mood by checking out this Ravenloft-inspired parody of Sam Smith's Unholy. Honestly, I think it's sexier than the original.

BONESAW IS (ALWAYS) REAAAADDDYYY!

First he body slammed his way into Vigilante City/SURVIVE THIS!!. Then he did a diving elbow in 5e. Now Bonesaw gets the three for Evolved and other DCC supers games, because as we all know:

BONESAW IS REAAAADDDYYY!

The Macho Man's small role (or featured role as he proclaimed in his iconic Hogan diss track "Be A Man") in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man has stuck with me.

Bonesaw McGraw: Init +2; Atk +d5 (unarmed, 1d8+3); Crit IV/1d16; AC 12; HD 3d12+6; HP 16; Mov. 30'; Act 1d20; SP Off the top rope; SV Ref +3; Fort +3; Will +1; AL N

Off the top rope: Bonesaw gains a +1 modifier when performing diving attacks and ignores the damage of any fall that is 15' or less.

October Horror Movie Challenge 2025 Planning

We are just a few weeks away from October and I am still trying to decide how I'm going to do the challenge this year. I've listed a few possible themed challenges I've found. I've also thought about doing themed weeks, rather than days. Honestly, I'm not sure if any sounds more appealing than the others. What do y'all think? Anyone else participating in a horror movie challenge next month?

Crisis In Infinite Zines #1 Art Preview

Greetings True Believers!

I'm doing a writing overhaul on the zine and using some "editorial mandates" Dave and I have decided on. I'm also working on another short table, d30 Origins. While I don't want to show anymore of the text right now, I thought I'd share a few pieces of art. Note, these might not be the final versions and should be considered works-in-progress.

The first piece is for the Super Pal class. This one was done by the zines co-creator, Dave Coppoletti. You can definitely see the Silver Age Jimmy Olsen influence in this one.

The second piece of art was created by David Vance. This one is for the Butler class.

[Screeching]

I haven't posted much recently, though I have been writing. Dave and I are hard at work on Issue #1 of Crisis in Infinite Zines

I've really been enjoying Peacemaker Season 2. It's introduced a new dimension and new characters. Since I statted Peacemaker for Evolved, I thought it would be appropriate to stat out his best friend and sidekick, Eagly. But before that here's a silly trait inspired by the second episode:

Bird blindness: No matter the size or species of the bird this creature will always perceive them as a small bird. At the Judge's discretion that also applies to other avian creatures.

And now for Peacemaker's feathered friend. I started with the bird of prey stats and beefed them up slightly. Then I added the sidekick traits. Note, while the stats refer to PC mentor, he is Peacemaker's sidekick.

Eagly (0-level sidekick): Init +2; Atk +2 peck (1d6+1); Crit M/1d6 (special); AC 14; HD 3d8+3; HP 16; Mov. 10', fly 90'; Act 1d20; SP eye gouge, lucky, good luck charm; SV Fort +3; Ref +3; Will +2; Path WtL; Str 13(+1), Agi 16(+2), Sta 13 (+1), Per 10(+0), Int 6(-1), Luck 14 (+1).

Eye gouge: If Eagly rolls a critical hit on his attack roll, the damage also potentially ruins one of the victim’s eyes in addition to the rolled critical hit effect (a successful Luck check avoids). Having one eye means the victim has a -2 penalty on all missile fire attacks and for Intelligence checks for searching and spotting (active).

Good luck charm: For every 1 luck burned, Eagly gains +2 to his or his PC mentor's roll. Eagly's Luck score is restored each night by a number of points equal to his PC mentor's level. If Eagly dies, the owner loses 2 permanent Luck and any of hte good luck charm benefits bestowed (see Sidekick Benefits and Drawbacks, p. 392, EVOLVED RPG).

Lucky: Eagly grants his PC mentor +1 Luck and +1 to Reflex saves.

Music Monday - Cry Little Sister

My friend Stew sent me think link to this video with the message "Relevant to your interest" and before clicking it I knew at least one hot alt chick would be involved. I was not wrong. Seriously though this is a solid cover of a vampire classic.
