October Horror Movie Challenge - The Devil's Backbone (2001)

Synopsis: After his father dies in the Spanish Civil War, 12 year old Carlos is sent to live in a ominous boy's orphanage. He soon discovers it is haunted and has many dark secrets.

The Good: Everything. The cast is phenomenal (made up of several familiar faces if you're a del Toro fan). The movie contrasts the innocence of youth with the horrors of war (similar to Pan's Labyrinth). I really liked the ghost design. It is a powerful film demands your attention.

The Bad: The film is in Spanish with no dub. If you don't like subtitles, don't watch this one.

Final Thoughts: Various scenes of this movie had me in tears. It was not scary, but it thought provoking. The horror of this movie is evil of man, though there is hope too. This is my favorite serious ghost movie and tied with The Frighteners for top ghost honors (any genre).

This movie touched me so I'm going to skip the how to use this in your game section.
