This was actually a recent discussion I had with my gaming group. Once we finish Curse of Strahd, they'd like to try a game other than D&D. This is what we decided to go with.
I've written a bit about Star Wars (including the Fantasy Flight system). If you're curious about the posts here they are:
Death Troopers - zombies from the Expanded Universe novel Death Troopers
PROXY - lightsaber wielding holodroid and companion of Darth Vader's secret apprentice
Blitz - my favorite personal Star Wars character, updated from Star Wars Saga Edition to the Fantasy Flight game
Good call. I haven't played this newest version (to be honest, I've only ever played D6 Star Wars), but it may be the ultimate roleplaying setting. Everyone likes it (except people who also hate cake and kittens and bubbles). It has monsters and wizard-knights. Heck, A New Hope practically played out like someone's awesome homebrewed D&D campaign. The ONLY drawback to running it (or...what has maybe kept me always playing and never running Star Wars) is that a good portion of the folks I've gamed with have much greater knowledge of the canon than I do, and I'm sure I'd screw something up somewhere.
ReplyDeleteOnly one of my players is a giant Star Wars fan (outside of the movies), so that helps.
