October Horror Movie Challenge - Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006)

Synopsis: Leslie Vernon is going to be like his heroes, Jason Vorhees, Michael Meyers, and Freddy Krueger. He invites a documentary film crew to follow him and document his rise to legend.

The Good: I loved the premise of this flick. The world of Leslie Vernon is a world were slashers are totally real. There's a nice mix of humor and horror and the film is a loving tribute to slashers. The primary cast are all entertaining. Leslie is a great character. There are also some great cameos. Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th series), Robert Englund (Nightmare on Elm Street series), and Zelda Rubinstein (Poltergeist) all have small roles. In addition, a pre-Walking Dead Scott Wilson plays Leslie's mentor, the retired slasher Eugene.

The Bad: I have nothing to complain about this movie. I thought it was really well done. The twist didn't totally surprise me, but I enjoyed it.

Final Thoughts: This is a brilliant movie. I like that the first half of the movie is a documentary and then it shifts to a classic slasher movie. If you're a fan of slashers, check this one out.
