October Horror Movie Challenge - Happy Death Day (2017)

Synopsis: A college student relives her birthday over and over as she's killed repeatedly. To escape the time loop, she must solve her own murder.

The Good: This movie is more clever than it should be. Jessica Rothe is an entertaining lead (even if she's kind of bitchy when the movie starts) and Israel Broussard is great as the eventual love interest. The movie has a few scares and is definitely filled with mystery.

The Bad: We've definitely seen this plot several times before, though at least one of the characters acknowledges the similarities with Groundhog's Day.

Final Thoughts: This movie is funnier than it is scary, but still worth a watch. I'm going to be honest, so far this is my biggest surprise. I really expected to hate it, but I had fun watching it.

In Your Game:

Time Loop
Sometimes the intrusion of the Otherside will cause a person to relive the same period of time over and over (most likely a day). Through some quirk of reality/magic/fate the character must accomplish a specific deed. Each day the person will wake up with memories of the previous days in the loop. If the person dies while in a leap their maximum hit point will be one lower when they wake up next. This effect is cummunalitve while they are in the loop. Their maximum hit points will return to normal once they complete their task. In addition for surviving and learning, the person receives a permanent +1 to WIS or INT.
