Synopsis: Very loosely based on Theseus and the Minotaur, this flick is set during the Iron Ages. A cruel empire that worships their bull god made flesh, the Minotaur, demands annual sacrifices from a small village. The chieftain's son disobeys his father and goes with the sacrifice in the hopes of rescuing his love, a previous sacrifice.
The Good: While I'm sure he'd like folks to forget about this flick, Tom Hardy is fine and the moody protagonist. There are some interesting supporting characters from his village. While it's not the classic man bull, the Minotaur is an interesting looking demonic bull.
The Bad: This movie feels a lot like 300 with it's decadent dark skinned empire. Tony Todd is wasted as the lusting after his sister Xerxes copy. Also, Rutger Hauer is mentioned on the cover but is in the flick for a whole two minutes tops.
Final Thoughts: I bought this movie for a buck and it was well worth that price. This film wasn't
great or even that good, but it wasn't really bad either. If you're looking for a mindless SyFy quality fantasy flick or love Tom Hardy, then this is one to check out.
In Your Game:
The Minotaur would make a great White Box monster.
The Minotaur
Armor Class: 1 [18]
Hit Dice: 5
Attacks: Gore (1d6+2)
Special: Ram
Move: 12
HDE/XP: 6/300
This cruel beast delights in killing. It is able to make a ram attack by moving up to it's full movement in a straight line and making an attack roll. On a natural 20 the victim is impaled on the beast's horn and must make a saving throw on it's turn to escape. If the Minotaur makes a gore or ram attack while a creature is impaled on one of it's horns the unfortunate victims takes the same amount of damage as the Minotaur's target.
