Child's Play (2019)

Synopsis: Kaslan Industries is an everyday part of American lives. Their automated systems control tvs, lights, thermostats, and even self-driving cars. They even created the Buddi doll a small robotic doll that can link in and control their products. Unfortunately for young Andy, his Buddi doll is different from the rest and will stop at nothing to make sure he's his best friend to the end.

The Good: I thought all of the performances were good. In particular I loved the mother and son played by Aubrey Plaza (who I have a serious crush on) and Gabriel Batemen. Detective Mike (played by Brian Tyree Henry) was great too. Finally Mark Hamill did and outstanding job bring this new version of Chucky to life. The film has some brutal kills and a serious dark humor streak that had me laughing. There are also some nice nods to other horror flicks, like Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and Leprechaun.

The Bad: The tone of the film is inconsistent at times, which I'm sure bothered some.

Final Thoughts: I thought this was a great remake. They took the original killer doll idea and took it into a new direction. That being said, I'm still glad the original continuity is going to continue on as well.

In Your Game: A renegade Buddi doll would make a great adversary for a low level group of vigilantes.
