October Horror Movie Challenge - It Came From The Desert (2017)

Like most of the films I watch for the challenge, this is free to watch movie on Tubi

Motocross star Lucas, his best friend and mechanic Brian, and Brian's love interest Lisa head to the desert to party and celebrate Lucas' recent win (and meet their movie hero, the Exterminator). Unfortunately, alien ant hybrids have overrun a secret lab and crash the party (because they need alcohol to fertilize their eggs and humans to feed the hatchlings).

While I know it won't be for everyone, I found this movie was shockingly entertaining. The movie is campy fun that is a throwback (and references classics like THEM!).  It's very aware that it's a cheesy creature feature. The characters aren't very deep, but they're great classic protagonists, nerdy hero with something to prove, his handsome but dimwitted friend, and love interest that obviously is into him but he's clueless about. They are geeks and make quite a few movie references. The effects are fun, there are some good kills, and quite a bit of humor (including subtitled scenes of ants talking to each other). Oh and the Exterminator is a nice Ash Williams tribute.

The movie is based on the game of the same name (released in 1989). I'd never heard of the game because I never played anything on the Amiga. There are scenes from the game in the credits, which I thought was a nice touch.

If you want a good cheesy creature feature, check this out. This movie knows exactly what it is and has fun with it.

In Your Game: The stats I did for Dead Ant can work for most of the generic ants.

Ant Queen (Alien Ant/Fire Ant/Tarantula Hybrid)
Armor Class: 13
Hit Dice: 10
Move: 20
Actions: 1
Attack: Claw (1d6, 10' reach), Bite (1d8)
Special: Poison spray, webbing
Bonuses: +5 to toughness +5 to Attack rolls, +3 to Damage
Morale: 10
Terror: 13
HDE: 9

The queen ant can spray poison. Targets within a 15' cone must make a DC 15 Dexterity check or take 2d8 poison damage (Poison save for half damage). Once this ability is used the queen rolls a 1d6 on the beginning of each of her turns. She is unable to use the ability again until she rolls a six on one of these rolls.

The queen can shoot webbing out at a range of 60'. This requires an attack roll. The webbing can can be broke with a a DC 25 Strength check or by taking a total of 25 points of damage. The webbing has toughness +5.
