October Horror Movie Challenge - Jack Brooks, Monster Slayer (2007)

Like most of the films I watch for the challenge, this is free to watch movie on Tubi

After witnessing the deaths of his parents and sister, Jack Brooks develops serious anger issues. His girlfriend is fed up and forces him to attend night classes to better himself and focus. Unfortunately after getting help from Jack, the professor is possessed by a demonic heart. Jack must use his anger to stop his professor.

Normally I don't like loud angry guys, but Jack is a likable character. Despite his pent up frustration, he's a really nice guy. Trevor Matthews does a great job of playing him and making him feel like an Ash Williams-esque hero. Horror icon, Robert Englund, does a good job as Jack's bumbling professor. Other than Jack, the characters are pretty one dimensional, but that's to be expected in something like this.

One thing this movie definitely has going for it is the practical effects. The make-up and puppetry for this flick are fantastic. This is one of my favorites that most folks don't know about. I really wish there would have been sequels.

In Your Game: Jack's anger is one of his greatest tools against monsters. If you want to emulate his rage in SURVIVE THIS!! I'd give a raging character advantage on attack rolls and say that all attack rolls against them also have advantage.
