October Horror Challenge - Creepshow 2 (1987)

Day 6's prompt was "Anthology," I didn't watch the latest VHS because I don't currently have Shudder. I decided to go with Creepshow 2 because I've only seen one of the segments.

Plot

In this horror anthology, young Billy excitedly gets the newest issue of the Creepshow comic and some man-eating plants, while having to avoid bullies. All of this while the Creep regales the audience with three stories.

Review

The stories for this one are based on Stephen King stories. The narrating Creep is played by horror icon Tom Savini. This anthology is fantastic and might be better than the first. I'll talk about the different segments:

Wraparound Story - This is mostly animated and its wild. They style of animation is kind of unhinged and it works.

Old Chief Wood'nhead - This story focuses on a kindly old couple running a small town's general store. They have a great relationship with a local indigenous tribe. The owner Ray takes pride in his wooden cigar store Indian. The couple are killed and the wooden Native American gets revenge on the young hoods. While there are some dated cultural references in this one, it's a fun story. The villain Sam, is despicable and the old couple are really sweet. 

The Raft - Two couples find themselves trapped on a raft in an isolated lake by a black blob. The is legitimately a creepy short. The affects by blob are horrific. Even if you don't watch the entire anthology you need to check this out.

The Hitch-Hiker - An adulterous businesswoman hits a hitchhiker while leaving her gigolo's home. She is then haunted/stalked by the murdered man. This is probably my least favorite of the segments. It's not bad, I just didn't find it as entertaining as the others. Oh, this one does feature a Stephen King cameo.
