October Horror Movie Challenge - Old 37 (2015)

All films I'm watching for the challenge are currently (as of posting) viewable for free on via Tubi.

Old 37 is a crowdfunded slasher about two demented "paramedics" that intercept and take folks away to be tortured before real paramedics can arrive to help. The slashers, John Roy and Daryl, are played by horror icons Kane Hodder and Bill Mosley. Kane's silent performance channels Jason and there and Daryl's quick wit channels Chop Top. The rest of the cast is made up of stock spoiled brats and a protagonist with body issues.

The plot is simple enough and the kills and gore are done well. Hodder and Mosley definitely shine and are doing what they do best. I have to say the protagonist's need to be popular and fit in via plastic surgery bugged me. Not that you need to give a movie like this a message, but she really learned nothing and just got herself into more trouble.

Overall, this is a throw away slasher. While it's a great concept and has solid killer performances, the bland protagonists and other attributes don't really do much to make it stand out in the generic slasher pack. It's a one and done flick.

Also, I think the double twist ending was kind of lame.

In Your Game: The demented slashers make great low tier psychos for Vigilante City's. They'd be especially great rivals for a Knight Nurse (like my character Remedy in the Gamemaster's Guide).
