Plot
A group of friends reunite after the tragic murder of one of their own, hiking through the Scandinavian wilderness. Soon they find themselves in a forest, stalked by an ancient evil of Norse origin.
Review
I'm not really sure why I slept on this Netflix film. The cast are phenomenal, especially the lead Rafe Spall (who played one of the Andy's in Hot Fuzz). The film is an excellent look at grief and survivor's guilt and how it can affect close friends. Most of the film is set in the beautiful hills and forests of Sweden. This is a nice contrast to the tension and horror of the plot. The movie features genuinely terrifying moments and horrific imagery. The demigod creature of the film is a unique creature with an equally unique design. The Ritual is worth the watch just to see it. If you want a dose of pagan horror, check this one out.
