Free Show, Great Music, Cool Shop

If you're in the Buckeye state today I recommend heading to Super-Fly Comics and Games in Yellow Springs tonight. There will be a great hiphop show tonight. Mikal kHill and Tribe One will be doing individual sets. Afterwards they will get together to do some stuff from Tribe One's other project, Malibu Shark Attack! (exclamation point is part of the name, though I am excited).

I've heard both of the cats before. They're fantastic artists and just really cool dudes.

Malibu Shark Attack! - Internal Organs

Not a Malibu Shark Attack!, but still funny.

This Color Ends With "Urple"

My birthday is in one week and I decided to treat myself yesterday I ordered pdf and print versions of +Venger Satanis's The Islands of Purple-Haunted Putrescence and +Zak Smith's Red and Pleasant Land. I've skimmed through both pdf's and I like what I see. I can't wait to sit down with the physical copies and really dive into them. Once that happens, expect to see more detailed thoughts.

As I've previously mentioned I'm running +Mark Taormino's excellent The Hanging Coffins of the Vampire Queen at my birthday party. Due to work schedules and things I still have a few weeks to wait for that, but it's going to rock! Speaking of Mark, he's much closer to finishing his second kickstarter, and will be launching a third soon.

Life is good. Despite the stress, I'm loving my new position and I've started seeing a new lady friend. Also, I've got three kickstarters that I should see returns from in the next few months (DCC Peril on the Purple Planet boxed set, Lusus Naturae, and the hardcover Freeport update).

Lusus Naturae (plus a new 5E monster conversion)

It will be arriving a bit later than planned, but I'm happy to hear that +Rafael Chandler's Lusus Naturae is in the final stages. The book is an utterly gruesome old school bestiary using the Lamentations of the Flame Princess rules set (meaning it's compatible with most old school fantasy games and even 5e with a  little work). I've already converted one of the preview monsters over to 5E. You can can check the preview and read about the nasty thing here.

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game and the Owlbeartross

Recently I've become pretty interested in the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game. The base sets are for 1-4 players. While gaming alone isn't the most fun, my groups rarely meet. This would give me a chance to do something (other than video games) by myself.

To play the game you buy one of the base sets (based on Pathfinder Adventure Paths) and the bi-monthly expansions. Cards can be mixed and matched if you want. The current sets are Rise of the Rune Lords, and Skull & Shackles. Wrath of the Righteous releases later this year.

I currently have a few promo cards. I bought a Game Trade Magazine earlier this week because it had a Dance with Squeelly Nord promotional card. I also grabbed the Ranzak (goblin pirate) character card from last Free RPG Day. I hope to pick up the Ekkie one this year. I think I'm going to pick up the Skull & Shackles base set for my birthday.

As a side note, I found this while researching the game. I don't remember if it's in the AP (I'll have to check when I get home), but I have to use an owlbeartross the next time I have a nautical game.

For various reasons I've decided that for today's Succubus Sunday I'd repost my all time favorite succubus pic.

By Neptune's Beard!

I don't care if he's not a blonde guy from the Atlantic ocean, Jason Mamoa as Aquaman is badass! "Unite the Seven" has me wondering. Is it a reference to the Seven Seas or the Big Seven (aka the Justice League)?

Also for the record, Mamoa is my live action Conan. I just really love this guy.

Nerd Lust

Though it's one of those holidays I don't really care for, I wanted to wish everyone a happy Valentine's Day.

Here is a collection of fun gaming related VD e-cards:

  • WOTC posted some earlier in the week. Check them out here.
  • Some fun fan-made Dragonlance ones can be found in this Tumblr post. The Flynt and Tass one's are my favorites.
  • There are some great ones over at the Dungeon Bastard site, here.
  • Not a card, but you should check out this awesome remix of one of my favorite Schaffer the Darklord tracks (which was the inspiration for this post).

Friday the 13th

Bill Cavalier, Adventure Coach posted this on his Facebook page earlier. Personally, I love the idea. A rarely occurring bit of fun to spice things up sounds good to me. I was going to do this for my game Sunday (until I found out that two of my players made other plans and I had to cancel).

Since it's Friday the 13th, I figured it be another time to shamelessly plug my cinematic unisystem Jason Vorhees stats. Jason X was posted earlier this week and old school Jason was posted two years ago.

Ash Wednesday - Jason X

Jason X was a really bad movie, but in it's own way was kind of fun. Since Ash has already faced off with Jason in the comics and he time hops, it's easy to see him having an encounter with the future version of the unstoppable killing machine.

You can see my original Jason stats here.

Name: Über Jason
Motivation: Kill teens the good ol' fashioned way
Critter Type: Cybernetic Undead Slasher
Attributes: Str 15, Dex 5, Con 15, Int 3, Per 5, Will 5
Ability Scores: Muscle 31, Combat 17, Brains 12
Life Points:  325    Drama Points: 5
Special Abilities:  Bulletproof (Divide bullet damage taken by 10), Increased Life Points, (Un)Natural Toughness, Regeneration (10 LP a minute), Supernatural Senses (Detect Sin), Won’t Stay Dead (You can kill him, but Ćœber Jason will always come back)

                                     Maneuvers
Name               Score                     Damage               Notes
Grapple              19                          -                        Resisted by Dodge
Machete             17                          60                     Slash/Stab

How do you make Jason Vorhees deadlier? Give him regenerating nanites! Über Jason is even more powerful than normal. The nanites increase his strength and stamina, and constantly regenerate his wounds. Note, like my original write-up, this version of Jason normally takes the full attack option. He sees no reason to dodge attacks.

Feasting with the Vampire Queen

I've toyed around with several different ideas for my birthday celebration this year. The one that seems most fun though is to get together with my old gaming group and do an all day one shot with themed foods and alcohol.

I'm going to run +Mark Taormino's The Hanging Coffins of the Vampire Queen. While the adventuer is for OSRIC, I'm going to run it using D&D5. The adventure is written for 8+ 10-14th level characters. Taking this into consideration and looking over these playthrough post at The Other Side blog, I've decided that my group will be making 15th level characters. At best I'm going to have six players (including Amanda who shares a birthday with me and may get perks because it's her party too).

Since we're playing the Vampire Queen module, I'm extending the theme to include D&D and vampires. If anyone has any good suggestions for food and drinks let me know. I've come across a few online already.

Dracula's Kiss (or Vampire Queen's Kiss in the case)
Blood-filled vodka shots
Edible Fireballs
Tavern Stew
I may look through a Harry Potter or Game of Thrones cookbook for some more fantasy-esque foods. I also want to hit a thrift store to see if I can find some goblet/chalice looking cups and I want to definitely grab a few bottles of mead.

Giantslayer

While I have friends that have ran them, I don't typically run adventure paths. I take that back, outside of a few sessions of Kingmaker, I've never ran an adventure path. I own all of Skull and Shackles, but I could never get a group together to play it. That being said, I'm really contemplating picking up Pathfinder's next, Giantslayer

A whole Against the Giants-esque campaign? Sounds fun to me. I've come to realize that giants are a lot of fun and I've only recently starting using them. This AP will feature so many giants! How many kinds you ask, check out this little blurb from the Paizo blog:

"The Giantslayer Adventure Path features an almost bewildering variety of Brobdingnagian foes for your PCs to battle and slay, from old favorites like hill giants, stone giants, frost giants, fire giants, cloud giants, and storm giants, to less common colossi like cave giants, marsh giants, slag giants, and ash giants, not to mention cyclopes, ettins, ogres, trolls, and more. We've even got a couple of all new giants—the mongrel giant and the tomb giant—making appearances in Giantslayer, so be sure to take a look at the bestiaries for this AP."

I'm loving my 5E game, but when it's over I might see if the guys want to play some Pathfinder.

(The last few weeks have been rather busy, which is why there wasn't a new Ash Wednesday post yesterday. It will be back next week.)

The Wretched Hive - Blitz

Alright ladies, gentleman, and other sentients of the galaxy, I've had time to really dig into the Star Wars: Edge of the Empire book and I have to say... It's fantastic!

Expect to see periodic characters, bits of equipment, and perhaps an insertable scene or two to appear. I thought I'd start with a character I love. Blitz is the last Star Wars character I played. He was a rogue clone trooper that fought against the Empire during the Dark Times in a Saga Edition game ran by my friend Stew. Keep in mind that he was originally one of my characters, so of course I made him a badass.

Blitz (Nemesis)
The retired soldier, Blitz, began his life as ARC Trooper BL1T2. Towards the end of the Clone Wars he served under the beautiful togrutan jedi mistress, Evrarka, and her young padawan, Bish. She nurtured his sense of identity and the clone found himself falling in love.Though she knew worldly relationships were forbidden, the jedi didn't dissuade the clone's personal growth. Blitz watched helplessly as his fellow clones gunned down Evrarka. Thinking quickly he grabbed her padawan, and dove off a cliff. Miraculously the pair survived.

Blitz looked after the young jedi as his own son. The two joined up with several other rebellious sorts. They fought the newly formed First Galactic Empire for a few years, but ultimately their little band of rebels went it's separate ways.

Blitz is a security adviser and bodyguard for hire. While not a member of the Rebel Alliance, he's a sympathizer and has been known to do "charity" work for them from time to time. Though his helmet is the only original piece left, Blitz maintains a fully functional suit a clonetrooper/stormtrooper armor.
