Rollout - Episode 2
Episode 2 of Rollout is available to watch. Much like the first, this one made me laugh a lot. Some folks might not like celebs playing D&D, but if it exposes more folks to the hobby, I'm not going to complain.

Plane Shift: Dominaria
There's more Magic: The Gathering goodness for 5th edition D&D and I'm all for it. The latest Plane Shift feature brings back Magic's original setting, the plane of Dominaria. The book gives a brief overview of the planet and then details several factions. From what I've heard about the new Guildmasters' Guide to Ravnica book that releases in November, the guilds will be presented in a similar format. Instead of picking a background, characters wills pick a faction (or guild in Ravnica). This will include new material and suggestions for playing an iconic member. There's also mention of how to run adventures for the faction, including quests, sites associated with them, and villains. Here are the factions presented, with mention of new gaming material:
Dominaria has a special place in my heart. I used to read the old card encyclopedias all the time piecing together the story. and I still remember my excitement during the Invasion block. This release doesn't have a lot of new content, but it makes me smile anyway.
You can download it here.
- Seven Pillars of Benalia - This usually lawful, often good nation is descended from a fractured empire. In addition to humans, a new bird-like race, the Avens are given racial traits.
- Church of Serra - This human and aven church is known for its angels and gracefully floating towers.
- Tolarian Academies - This usually neutral, often lawful faction is a wizards school.
- Merfolk of Vodalia - Unlike merfolk presented in other Plane Shift articles, Dominaria's merfolk don't have legs, therefore aren't presented as a pc faction. However, they could still prove to be allies. Stats are given for the merfolks genocidal crustacean foes, the homarids.
- Belzenlok's Cabal - Another non-player faction, this darkness worshiping cult is a great foe for characters.
- Warriors of Keld - This usually chaotic, often neutral factions is made up of hulking grey-skinned humans who seek glory. Keldons are not standard humans and because of this are given racial traits of their own.
- Elves of Llanowar - This alliance of primarily neutral wood elves and half elves are reclusive nature lovers that worship Gaea, goddess of lives. Because of this connection they are allies of the reptillain kavu. Two variety of kavu are given monsters stats.

Shattered Grid Short (with Lord Drakkon stats for White Star)
Lord Drakkon is the main villain of the newest Power Ranger comic arc, Shattered Grid. I was a Power Ranger fan as a kid and I still have a soft spot for it. I plan on using White Star (and the Star Sailors pdf in particular) to star creating Power Ranger material.
Armor Class 3 [16]
Hit Dice 10
Total Hit Bonus +5
Attacks Sword of Darkness (1d6+6)
Saving Throw 9
Special Star Sailor powers (see below)
Movement 12
HDE/XP 12/2,600
Because of his connect to the Grid, Tommy is the most powerful Ranger in existence. He is able to tap into the abilities of various Rangers. He has access to all Star Sailor powers (with the exception of Light Force Engage! and Healing Orb) and can use them in any combination up 10 times per day.
Sword of Darkness
This mystic blade is even more powerful than a star sword (dealing 1d6+6 damage). It is imbued with dark energy and will cause it's wielder to act on their darker impulses.

The Silvery Moon Tavern Only 50 Cents
In honour of Gary Gygax's birthday Silver Bulette have made The Silvery Moon Tavern only 50 cents (now through sometime Sunday). This is an nicely detailed and usable with any elf and sword game. The book present the staff and customers (along with traits and plot hooks connected to them). There is some nice information on food and drink and entertainment. The appenices are quite helpful, giving glossary of medieval jobs, exotic foods list, Silvery Moon wine list, and some magic items found in the Silvery Moon Tavern. The magic items are very powerful, but have a really interesting flavor to them and I have several characters that would love to have them.New (Unofficial) Akados Region Content From JB Publishing
In addition to his great Temple of Elemental Evil one page adventure project, Josh at JB Publishing has a new endeavor that's really cool. He's got the blessings of the Frogs to release unofficial OPA's set in the Akados region. You can read more about it and snag his first in the series, The Awakening of Fivestones, here. I think it would be a great way to kick off a campaign and it includes six very unique monsters.
Reliquary Issue 2 Review
Sunday morning I ordered Reliquary Issue 2 from Scourge Books and I was happy to find it in my mail box yesterday. After reading it, I'm definitely glad I picked up it.
The small tome contains two dark fantasy adventures and a short article that expands one of them. The book is OSR through and through, though it's technically systemless. Speaking with the author I know that he uses it with Lamentations of the Flame Princess and that game seems like the perfect fit to me.
The first adventure is called From The Dark Past. The party come upon a village that's recently suffered a massacre at the hands of a tribe of primordial men. They find out the sheriff's wife has been kidnapped and it's a rush to save her before she becomes the cannibal tribesmen's next meal. There are some good roleplaying opportunities early on in this one and I like the sense of urgency. While it's definitely more gruesome (based on body count alone), it really reminds me of one of my favorite westerns, Bone Tomahawk.
The adventure is followed by a three page write up about magical mushrooms called Liberation Caps. These psychedelic and mystic shrooms will show the players things and once ingested, a person is never the same.
The book ends with the second adventure/site, The Hungry End. The small village of Luctus is a friendly and welcoming community, with a passionate priest that teaches community and faith, and a secret that is all consuming. I don't want to spoil anything, but this is an interesting one and would love to see how parties will react to the revelation.
If you like your fantasy on the darker side, you need to start reading Reliquary. I'm sad I missed out on the first issue in print, but I will definitely snag it when it's reprinted. For an indeterminate amount of time, you can download both issues here for free.

BONESAW IS REAAAADDDYYY! (Survive This!!)
I was watching a video earlier and it reminded me of one of my favorite bit parts in any of the Spider-Man flicks, Bonesaw. I figured it would be fun to stat him out for SURVIVE THIS!! You could use these stats to represent just about any wrassler from the 80's, perhaps a wrestler is a survivor of the zombie apocalypse, or he could go toe to toe with a new vigilante.
Also this is the feature role mentioned in the the classic jam, Be A Man.
Armor Class: 12

Attack Damage: 1d6
Special: Can move and make a Clothesline (1d6 damage) attack as one action. Can grapple and immobilize opponent (as Wrestling skill).

Men & Monsters of Polynesia Review
Men & Monsters of Polynesia is a monster source book by Skirmisher Games. The pdf is 22 pages, though only about 15 are actual game content or background information behind the design. Illustrations were created by by Travis Hanson and they are phenomenal! The book is OSR and the stats are provided for 1e D&D, though could be easily adapted to other editions. Obviously, the creatures included are based on legends and things from the islands of Polynesia, specifically Oahu, Hawaii, Kauai, Bora Bora, Moorea, Tahiti, and both the main islands of New Zealand. Before proper stats are given to the new creatures, there's discussion of guardian animals and divine creatures, important concepts in many Polynesian cultures. There's also discussion about how to make them using existing animals and such. This is followed by a random encounters table (because every old school monster book has one, right?) and then the "monster manual" proper. In addition to the new monsters presented here, existing MM monsters that are fitting to the setting are mentioned.
Here's a quick run down of the new monsters:
- Boar, Monstrous - gigantic destructive beast touched by the divine
- Green Lady - an evil undead spirit of a mother that's lost or even slain their own children
- Kawekaweau and Kawekaweau, Giant - island geckos, the smaller aren't normally aggressive but the giant variety can be
- Kupua E'epa - were sharks
- Kumi - large monitor lizards bites that can cause awful infections
- Maero - man-size woodland troll-kin (these are the creatures on the cover
- Menehune - island demihumans who were the original inhabitants of Lemuria
- Mo'o - female guardian creatures of natural sites, their natural form is a man-sized lizard
- Night Marcher - undead warriors who rise from the graves at certain times of their year and can draw others into their marches
- Tiki Statues (Wood and Stone) - Tiki are spirits that serve the gods and can be drawn into statues of stone or wood to protect sacred sites.
- Weta, Monstrous - heavily armored spikey giant crickets
- Weta, Workshop - intelligent spell casting giant crickets and a nice joke
The monsters are well designed and if you want to include some non-standard European inspired monsters you can't go wrong with this one. If you're running a pirate game such as Freeport, Skull & Shackles, or Razor Coast, this would be really good to have.
Normally a 1.99, its currently only .99 because of the Christmas in July sale.

Orcs in Tarodun's Tomb
Orcs in Tarodun's Tomb is am 18 page 5e adventure and the RPGNow Deal of the Day. It is written by Kiel Chenier (who's adventure, Blood in the Chocolate, is one of my favorites from the last few years) and features maps by Dyson Logos. The adventure is a perfect introduction to D&D, featuring magic tricks, traps, and pig-faced orcs. The pdf includes background/adventure hooks, charts that help customize the orcs, and nicely detailed rooms. As far as monsters and npc's, stats are included for the orcs and their cheiftess, wolves, an npc burglar, and an undead elven monstrosity.
While I just picked it up and haven't ran it, I think it looks like a fun intro adventure and I might toss it into my next campaign.
At 2.50 (again today only) it's a steal.
Ash Wednesday - We Are The Truth
Not saying I'm the biggest fan of the song, but I definitely dig the Evil Dead (remake) inspired video. But hey the band is from Ohio too, so that's cool.

DP&D - Episode 2: (Hell)Cow Tipping
Notes about the original cast can be found here.
New Cast
Summer Fields (played by Sam) - A gold 'ol farm girl and Equestrian Rider, Summer is the animal loving daughter of hippies with a strong moral compass.
RJ (played by Gavan) - This young home-schooled teen has been raised by his overbearing religious Survivalist parents. He has a chip on his shoulder and a lot to prove, to his parents and himself.
Synopsis
It's been two weeks since the night of interrupted Chupacabra love making. The cast had decided to not meet up for a bit, making sure they are not being followed. Given the way the authorities handled the incident, they believe there is a conspiracy afoot. When they finally decide to reconvene (at the Pope Lick Trestle), they are joined by their friend Summer (who wasn't present during the incident because she was competing). No one discovered anything new about the monsters, but Cassandra overheard an odd incident. It seems that a classmate, Mathew Anderson, attempted to go cow tipping and has not been the same since.
The group go to Jamal's house to pick him up (he has been attending physical therapy for the injuries his hand suffered because of the "bear attack".) Next they head to Mathew's house. Jamal enters under the pretense of delivering homework and finds Mathew shaken in his room. To get the young man to talk, he mentions his encounters with the supernatural. Mathew isn't the most talkative, but he does mention the thing had "large leathery wings."
They head to the Brown's farm, site of the incident. While heading there, they catch the interest of a young man named RJ, who's watching the parameter of his family's compound. He decides to follow them.
Summer and her family have had dealings with the Brown's before and she asked if they could look around (explaining she'd heard there were folks creeping around). Being the sweet and innocent girl she was, Farmer Brown agrees to let them look around.
The group search the barn and pasture and discover some of the cows are sluggish. While this was happening, RJ follows and observes. He also looks for useful things to take from the barn for his family. When Summer notices something spooking the horses in the barn, RJ spurs them forward into the pasture. Summer is able to calm them with a few gestures and words, amazing her friends.
Cassandra and Elliot pursue the unknown figure, while Jamal and Summer investigate the cows more. Cassandra offers the stranger a beer and while he takes a moment to look back at her, he flees (or at least appears to). The group speaks with Farmer Brown about the stranger and Summer's feat. Grateful he gives them a fresh baked apple pie.
The friends decide to stay at the barn and wait for whatever was coming, but Jamal wants to analyze the blood first to see if he could discover anything. He and Summer decide to ride her horse to the school. Even though it's Saturday, Jamal has a key. Cassandra and Elliot decide to drive (though they soon discover their new "friend" has slashed a tire). Kit decides to sit in the bar and eat pie.
At the school Jamal figures out that the cows have low platelet levels and are anemic. After talking with resident goth occultist Cassandra, they guess they might be dealing with a vampire. The group returns to the farm and prep. They discuss their findings with Kit. Cassandra grabs the wooden stakes she made before facing the Chupacabra, Kit and Summer grab their bows, Elliot grabd an oil lamp from the barn, and Jamal grabd a pitch fork.
While this was happening, RJ breaks into the Brown house. He stealthily makes it into the den, but while heading up stairs, bumps into a table and makes noise. Fearing getting caught, he enters a sewing room, grabs some needles (because he doesn't want to leave empty handed), and heads out the window onto the front of the porch.
Meanwhile inside the barn, the group hears a gust of air, followed by a loud thud, and hoof prints on the roof. They hide as best they can, until they hear the thing move and finally see the creature... the Hellcow!!!
It's large leathery bat wings, transform into a Dracula-style cape. The creature let out a maniacal laugh, "Mooooo-hahahaha!!!!" The horrid sound echoes in the teens' ears. Startled by the encounter, Jamal screams like a child and Cassandra hides.
Seeing the monster, RJ climbs off the porch roof and runs to his ATV, which is hidden by a nearby bale of hay. Unfortunately the creature sees him and flies quickly to intercept. Summer lets loose an arrow and hits the beast. Elliot and Kit rush the Hellcow, Kit going high and slamming into it the Elliot going under and pulling the cape. Somehow the coordinated effort managed to tip the vampiric bovine! It tries to bite RJ, but misses. He takes this opportunity to back his ATV into it. Jamal charges it with the pitchfork and slams into it, while summer looses another arrow. Regaining her composure, Cassandra snapps a picture of the fiend. This is followed by a flaming arrow prepared by Elliot (using oil from the lamp) and fired by Kit. It hits its mark and the cow moos furiously. RJ slamms a jar of his parents' adult water (moonshine) onto the beast, increasing the blaze (and causing the flames to lick those surrounding it). He then speeds away like a madman. The beast kips up onto it's hind legs and tries to pummel Kit, but unfortunately can't land a single blow. Still in the barn, Cassandra gathers her strength and rushes the beast with a homemade wooden stake.
"Moo?!" the Hellcow says in shock as the stake pierces its heart. Time seems to stop as grim reapers appear and grab the bovine, pulling it apart. Before the creature is ripped limb from limb in a bloody spray, they all disappear, leaving only only the beast's cape (which Jamal quickly claims).
Triumphant, but still in shock the group decides to camp out in the barn and party (with some Milwaukee's Best and some of the devil's lettuce). Sadly, Cassandra finds out her picture just shows a floating cape. While wandering around the barn, Elliot stumbles upon an old, slightly rusted box. Inside it is a well used, but seemingly functional pistol and ammo...
----------
While not a lot went down this session, it was a lot of fun. Elliot and Kit leveled up and everyone else should be able to next session with what I've got planned. That's why Elliot found a gun, btw (the hood gets one at 2nd level). It's rough working in a new character that isn't trusting, but we're getting there. Also, roleplaying Hellcow was a blast! I've never had more fun doing a villain's evil laugh. You can find stats for Bessie the Hellcow here. Also, entire fight scene I was thinking about this scene:

Rollout - Episode 1
Rollout is a new YouTube show on WWE superstar Austin Creed's channel, Up Up Down Down. While his videos normally center around video games, in Rollout he and his fellow wrasslers are playing D&D. Their DM is running Lost Mines of Phandelver for them and it's pretty fun. I mean, it's goofy as hell, but I dig it. While these folks are voice actors like the Critical Role folks, they still entertain folks for a living and are pretty expressive. The big dice came made me laugh. I'm interested in seeing how this game goes.

ToEE OPA Series: Chapter 1- Agent of Evil
Mr. Becklehimer is at it again and has released the first one page adventure for his new series of Temple of Elemental Evil adventures. You can find it here (along with links to monsters and npc's related to the adventures). The post also includes a nice breakdown of how to use Josh's OPA's.
The adventure itself is an rp heavy affair that deals with a secret agent of evil and fire bats. This is a great kick-off to Josh's project and I definitely want to run his version of Temple of Elemental Evil when it's finished.

DCC (David Coppoletti Classics)
I wanted to share this post that my friend Dave made earlier.
I've talked about Dave several times and even interviewed him for the blog a while back. You can read that here. His work really is awesome and if you're a writer/designer and need artwork you should reach out to him. Here's a link to his G+ account. He and I will be working on zines for DCC and Vigilante City. We have some other DCC projects in mind too. He's seriously one of my biggest rpg cheerleaders and inspirations.
Here are a few of his pieces from the books.

Mash-Up Of My Childhood Favorites I Didn't Know I Needed
Power Rangers Legacy Wars is mobile game that is currently doing a crossover with Street Fighter. To promote it, they teamed up with YouTube channel Bat In The Sun (who did the sweet Joker vs. Negan video I posted back in February) to promote it. Enjoy!
There's a short film coming this fall, but if you're curious what Ryu looks like as a Ranger, here you go...
Street Fighter and Power Rangers are two franchises I want to do rpg's with. I know that White Star would be a great game to play Power Rangers with (as you can read here). I'm thinking Vigilante City might be a good one for Street Fighter, but I won't know until the game drops.

Tales of Dungeons and Doggies Kickstarter
Animal Adventures: Tales of Dungeons and Doggies Kickstarter is a miniatures and 5e rules project going on right now. Here are the doggies.
There's only one pledge level and for it you get the minis above. These are scaled to 25 and 20 mm bases. In addition to the minis you get two pdfs. The first contains OGL 5th edition racial rules for playing intelligent canines. It also inclused unique racial feats and class options, info on a doggie diety, and magic items designed for man's best friend. Finally each of the minis has an associated character. In addition, you'll get the pdf for an adventure called "Who'll Let The Dogs Out."
The minis are adorable and I think I'd be cool with intelligent doggos in my game. Plus the minis could work well for animal companions and familiars. The project has 12 days left and you should check it out. I really how they do Cats and Catacombs next!

Joseph Seed (SURVIVE THIS!!)
As I mentioned yesterday, I wanted to do some game stats for the Project at Eden's Gate. While Dark Places & Demogorgons has crazy religious types nailed with Reverend Philips and his crew, I think Joseph Seed would a great villain for a Zombies! or Vigilante City game.

Honestly the human adversaries from Zombies! and Dark Places & Demogorgons would work well for the various unnamed members of the Project at Eden's Gate.

Against the Module Episode 1 - The Keep on the Borderlands
Wirty has uploaded the first episode of our new YouTube project, Against the Module. We’re just a few folks talking about adventures and modules and such. For the first episode we went with the classic (or is it cliche') choice of The Keep on the Borderlands. Don't be too harsh in your critique, this was a first outing. If you have any suggestions, let us know.

The Project at Eden's Gate
A fundamentalist gun-toting Christian doomsday cult, the Project at Eden's Gate, are the antagonists of Far Cry 5. I've not played the game yet, but the live action trailer and prequel film really have me interested. I've played Farcry 3, Blood Dragon Island, 4, and Primal and they were all great. I'm sure this one will be too.
Tomorrow I'll stat Joseph and some of his cultists out for SURVIVE THIS!!.

Marvel Rising: Initiation Trailer
This looks like a lot of fun. I'm not familiar with Quake but I love the other heroes in the trailer (especially Squirrel Girl). There are some great ideas for a teen game. I like the idea of the Hero Watch (or is it Herowatch) app. If superheroes existed in the real world I could definitely see there being an app to track heroes and villains.
Wax Figures (DP&D)
Here's the first of my Gravity Falls/Dark Places & Demogorgons conversions. The Wax figures appeared in episode 1.3 Headhunters.
Wax Figures
Move: 12
Attacks: 1 per Round
Attack Damage: Weapon
Special: Only take HP damage from fire/heat.
Terror: 10
HDE: 1
Wax figures will only be active during periods that the moon is waxing. They avoid the sun and heat because the only way to defeat them is to melt them. Regular attacks may sever limbs, but be warned the limbs will act independently of the body.

Nathan Fillion is Nathan Drake!
I've not owned a Playstation product for more than a few months since the days of PS2. That being said I'm familiar with the Uncharted series. They're critically acclaimed and supposed to be fun as Hell. Of course the franchise has been picked up by a movie studio, but the film is in production Hell. I don't know that any official film could top this live action fan film though. Even if, like me, you aren't the most familiar with the series, you should enjoy this.
This really makes Raiders! of the Lost Artifacts. Anyone played that?

Thoughts on the Twin Cities (Light and Vigilante)

No new gaming content in this one either. I promise more will come soon. I just felt like talking about some stuff on my mind and mention future plans.
Some folks may have noticed that I've not been making as much Light City content recently. I love it it but I feel like it's gone as far as I can take it for now. The reason I created my oddball classes and adversary books is because Jonathan is working on the core iconic classes. He's much busier with real life than I am and they're taking a bit. Light City is his baby though and I wouldn't feel right doing them myself, so until they get finished, I think I'm hanging up my LC cape for now.
That being said. I still have supers on the brain. If you're a regular reader you know I've become a big fan of Bloat Games SURVIVE THIS!! line. With the upcoming release of SURVIVE THIS!! Vigilante City that fandom is only growing. Vigilante City is going to open to third party publishers, so of course I'm going to make content for it. I definitely want to make a Vigilante City zine. I've already contacted a few folks I know that are gamers and comic book fans. They all seem to be on board. Also, my buddy Dave has agreed to do some art for it. That's not all though. I have a few classes in mind and if they're not something similar to them in the core book (which has 21 classes at this point, btw), then I'll make them. This blog was originally created to be a place for me to post my own supers setting for Mutants & Masterminds. That's why the url is Punverse. Who knows? Maybe, I could do a full setting? I also like the idea I was doing with Light City of taking public domain stuff and turning it into gaming material. A pulp/golden age sourcebook for Vigilante City would be cool. After all, Batman: The Animated Series had the Gray Ghost. Oh yeah, I also have these bad boys. There's all sort of fun stuff that could come from it.
Cereal Creatures
I've seen monstrous version of cereal characters before, but I don't know if any of them were this bad ass. If you want to see a larger version click the source link.

Gravity Falls & Demogorgons

| More than a little excited to read this beauty. |
If you are unfamiliar, Gravity Falls was a brilliant cartoon on Disney XD that ran from 2012-2016. It was two seasons (40 episodes) of quirky goodness. The series follows twins, Dipper and Mable Pines, as they spend their summer with their great-uncle (or as they call him Grunkle) Stan in the small northwestern town of Gravity Falls. Gravity Falls isn't what it appears to be though and soon the twins find out that there's more to the sleepy town than what meets the eye. They learn that there are supernatural forces at work and the area is crawling with paranormal entities.
This cartoon is perfect. It's way smarter and better than anything on a kid's network has any right to be. The show really does a great job of blending humor and mystery. While the show still airs on Disney Channel some, I recommend picking up the soon to be released Complete Series boxed set.
I plan on statting out various characters and creatures for DP&D. Has anyone else watched the series? Did you enjoy it? Think DP&D would be a good fit to emulate it?

Woodfall Kickstarter
Woodfall - a mini hexcrawl is a system neutral dark fantasy project on Kickstarter right now. It's a dark fairy tale mini-setting with a town of witches and thieves and warring monster clans. One of the design ideas behind it is that it can be used as is, or dropped into your campaign. All you need is a kingdom with some mountains and bam, cross-mojination. Personally I'm down with just about anything with fairie tales and witches. That's the kind of stuff I like. But beyond that this setting has a lot of goodness, including:
- Approx. 100 pages of content
- New monsters
-
DIY magic item creation system
- Hirelings
- Villains
- Weird shops
- A hexcrawl with 12 keyed locations
- Lots of random tables
- Flora and Fauna
- Rules for the setting changing over time
- Various random tables
- Legal system for the town
- Thieves guild
- Monster hunting content
