October Horror Movie Challenge - Southbound (2015)

Synopsis: Southbound is five interlocking stories that take place on a desolate stretch of dessert highway.

The Good: The stories are woven together masterfully and despite the fact there are multiple stories, the movie takes place in chronological order. The acting is good, Dana Gould has a cameo, and the winged demon/angel creatures look awesome.

The Bad: Honestly, I don't think I have much to complain about here. The movie was just all around engaging and entertaining.

Final Thoughts: A desolate desert highway is a good representation of purgatory. This movie isn't amazing, but I thought it was solid, had interesting characters, and provided some nice visuals.

In Your Game: Honestly, I'm not really sure how to tie this one into cinematic unisystem. I don't really feel like I know enough about the awesome looking creatures to do a quicksheet. You could do a purgatory focused episode if a character dies, but otherwise I'm drawing a blank.

  1. You're pointing out some great options for me this month. I like the seserted highway angle of this one and have often thought that it'd be cool to set an entire RPG campaign on one (I think about this mostly while driving around back roads for work).

    1. I've thought about a Buffy/Angel set in Nevada that would include things like this, plus Vegas and Perfection (the setting of Tremors).
