Sweet Sweet Fishy Love (NSFW)

Yeah, this post isn't about this movie.... which is phenomenal by the way.

Nope, today I'm going to be talking about Fish Fuckers. Yup, I said Fish Fuckers. If you're going to being playing the adventure, beware spoilers.

Yeah... I had to order it.

So what is Fish Fuckers? It's a cheeky take on Shadow Over Innsmouth. It has a similar start: the pc's go to a village where fortunes have changed. However this isn't because townsfolk have started worshiping the deep ones and their ancient father and mother... no, a magic-user has started a weird sex cult. Yup, instead of worshipping the sea creatures, the magic-user calls to them, has them bring fish and their strange deep one gold, and has the villages fuck them. The deep ones actually aren't to keen about the arrangement and try to recruit the party to stop it.

There are three main factions in the adventure: the cult/townsfolk, the deep ones, and thieves that want gold. How the party handles them and deals with Innsmouth is up to them. Like many old school adventures, this is definitely not a rail road. The layout is useful. Different important locations are detailed and likely adversaries are presented. The adventure can go many different ways.

There's one new occult object and two new spells presented. What I love about the spells is that they include Vaginas are Magic! style miscast charts. On one of these charts, Mr. Green gives stats for Father Dagon and Mother Hydra...

A three page "Random Esoteric Deep One Settlement Generator" is presented and I'm going to be honest, this one is useful for all sorts of games and not just this adventure. I'm going to use it in future pirate-y games.

I really like this adventure. It was pricey, but I understand why. That being said there was something that bugged me.

There is word for word repetition of certain stats. For example, the primary villain, his apprentice, and his henchwoman appear fully statted out three times in the book. Twice through out the adventure  and then once in the adversaries section. I get having them in the adventure and in the adversaries section, but having the same npc stats appear three times seemed like a big waste of space to me.

Unfortunately if you want a copy you're pretty much out of luck. It could only be ordered on April 1, 2018 (Finnish time). Any copies that weren't sold yesterday will be sold at cons that will allow it. I'm not sure if there pdf will eventually be available, but it won't be found in print anymore.

If you want a more serious take on this style of adventure, check out the great Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerers of Hyborea adventure, The Mystery at Port Greely.

  1. Thanks for the kind words!

As for the stats, I know what you mean. LotFP style guidelines state that NPC stats must appear in the location in which they appear, but in this case they could have popped up in a number of locations, hence the repetition. There's a tension between utility and wastefulness and I think we may have misjudged it this time.

(The real solution is to design the scenario better so that this wouldn't be a problem. I'm not that clever, alas.)

    1. I think it’s a wonderful adventure. That was my only nitpick. Thanks for writing it.

  2. This adventure is really well thought! It serms silly at first (and kinda is too), but there is a lot of good stuff in it!

    1. Most definitely. It's not a stretch to say this is my favourite Innsmouth inspired adventure.
