Slop (2018)

Full disclosure, the titular character, Slop, is played by an old friend who sent me a free copy of the film.

Synopsis: A missing child leads to a grisly discovery in an old barn. When a news team sneak into the crime scene after dark they soon come face to face with the killer.

The Good: The film does a great job of presenting a solid slasher within the confines of 40 minutes. Actually I think it was an improvement over a lot of slashers. While it's true we don't get to really get invested in the victims, we're still presented with a complete slasher tale. Also the way the opening scene is presented we see victims and get flashbacks of how they got where they were. This is a clever way of presenting things and almost made the film seem like a sequel to something else. Finally the killer really makes this one. Slop is creepy af, solidly built, and has some creative kills.

The Bad: They acting isn't going to win any Oscars and I'm guessing this was some of these folks first roles. The dialogue doesn't always feel natural either. Considering the genre, that works though. There are a few scenes that the sound quality seemed a bit off too.

Final Thoughts: The movie is far from perfect. However, it does a great job considering it had a micro-budget and you can tell that there's love put into the project. I enjoyed it. It's entertaining and has some fun kills that you don't have to wait forever to see.

In Your Game: You can definitely use a killer like Slop in any SURVIVE THIS!! game. He makes a twisted survivor in Zombies!, a classic slasher for Dark Places & Demogorgons, and a deranged killer that needs to be brought to justice in Vigilante City.
