Christmas Bloody Christmas (2022)

Plot

Indie record store owner Tori just wants to get drunk, party, and get laid on Christmas Eve. Unfortunately for her, a robotic Santa from a nearby toy store forces her into the fight of her life.

Review

Have you always wanted a grindhouse Xmas horror flick with Terminator vibes? No, well you've got one now anyway. It's a neon drenched blood bath written and directed by Joe Begos of VFW and Bliss fame. Well fame may be an overstatement, but I've seen them and liked them. This movie goes hard and takes itself seriously, and I think that's what makes it good. It also has a one track mind. The movie is bloody and messed up. It pulls no punches and is blood soaked. It also doesn't hold back on sexual discussion and content. Riley Dandy is phenomenal as Tori. Her journey to final girl status is fantastic. She's a music and horror loving Sarah Conner.

The movie starts with fake commercials in the vein of Robocop. We are then introduced to Tori, music and horror loving record store owner than just wanted to have a good time. In the process of having said good time, she encounters a malfunctioning Santa bot. The robots are reprogrammed military killing machines and some of them (like the one in movie, have reverted back to hunter-killer mode). Santa is very much like the original Terminator. It starts out looking mostly human and then as it takes more damage appears more sinister and robotic. There's something about an unstoppable killer that looks like a beloved childhood figure that's the perfect kind of creepy.

If you have Shudder and want to watch a different kind of Xmas movie, check this one out.

These 5e Terminator stats are appropriate for the cybernetic Santa.
