Day 4's prompt was "Foreign Language." I decided to go with the subtitled version of the Spanish film Piggy (Spanish: Cerdita).
Plot
Sara is a teen bullied for her weight. She witnesses her bullies kidnapped. The kidnapper shows her kindness and she's torn between revealing the truth and let her tormentors suffer.
Review
Before being turned into a feature film the director, Carlota Perada, made a short film version which you can watch here. Both versions star Laura Galán as ostracized teen. Galán does a fantastic job. The way she navigates conflict with her bullies, her mother, and her struggle to do what's right feels real. I liked seeing her grow as the film went on.
This one is more thriller than horror, not to say that its blood and gore free. It also made me uncomfortable at times and brought back a lot of memories of being picked on for being fat. There's also a scene involving the main character pleasuring herself which given the character's age is uncomfortable. However the actress is just two years younger than me, meaning she was in her mid 30's when it was shot.
Despite some discomfort, I thought this was a great flick.
