Just follow DC Comics and go into Crisis mode. There are seven foundational types of energy that make up the DC universe. The Emotional Spectrum and the Speed Force are the two most well known. These energy types are sometimes known as Anti-Crisis Energy. The forces of the Dark Multiverse and the Anti-Monitor are tied to tied to its antithesis, Crisis Energy. While you don't have to steal all of this directly, the idea that there is some sort of interdimensional Crisis Energy that either creates multiverse events or is created by these cosmic events is a very comic book thing.
So there it is. If you want to make your own supers setting, just change all instances of Chronal related energy and power info to Crisis Energy. Making this change still lets you include all the strange time and multiversal madness of the game, but lets you divorce it from the Days of Future Past style time travel stories. Doing this can also really open up classes and power types in your game too, without sacrificing the supers aspects.
Speaking of Evolved, I do plan on reviewing its four adventures in the next week or two. Blogging and writing is not a chore, but sometimes its hard to keep my mind focused on it, and to be honest I doubt the quality of what I type a lot too. But it's better to create/write and go back than to be self-critical and not do what I love.

"But it's better to create/write and go back than to be self-critical and not do what I love." - Wise words! Keep on keeping on!
ReplyDeleteThis is an excellent suggestion, and (maybe embarrassingly) I have to ask...is Crisis Energy actually a part of DC cosmology? It makes perfect sense within the universe, and I love the idea, there's just SO MUCH that's gone into the quasi-scientific explanations of the DC multiverse over the years that there's always something else to "learn" about it...!
ReplyDeleteI've heard or read it referenced, I just can't remember where. It was either mentioned in the Crisis on Infinite Earth animated trilogy, Dark Nights: Death Metal, or Dark Crisis on Infinite Earth.
DeleteThanks man! I definitely dig it. And I kind of love the way DC has gone all-in on their meta explanations for the state of their multiverse.
