The Wrassler (DCC)

I've created another mini-zine to give out at GenCon. This one was written for my fellow DCC lovers. I love wrestling and have since I printed 20 of these little guys. They are three pages of content and a page featuring me gushing about wrestling. To protect the double sided pages though, I created this nifty cardstock cover featuring one of my favorite all-time indie wrestlers, my uncle, Trik Nasty.

Eventually I will include this in a Lone Bard DCC product. I can guarantee that the version won't include my tribute to Joey Ryan (another of my favorite indie guys). If you are unfamiliar with Joey Ryan, here's a scientific look at his particular wrestling style.

Martial Arts Mayhem!

I've not had a chance to read it yet, but I wanted to let folks that there's a new Dark Places & Demogorgons pdf that dropped today. Martial Arts Mayhem! is a book that focuses on the martial arts craze of the 80's when karate kids, kickboxers, and ninja turtles invaded the United States. Once I can get this bad boy in print, I'll review it and let you know just how awesome it is. Until then you can pick up the pdf here for 4.99.

Also, if you want some inspiration, check out The Trailer Park Network.

Grimtooth's Guide to Undermountain?

Last night while playing Lords of Waterdeep and talking about the city with friends, I had a fun idea. What if Grimtooth the Troll made his way to the Realms? Halaster used Undermountain for experimentation and things.  The troll would obviously go to Undermountain and use it as a testing ground too. I know this sounds a bit goofy, but I think it would be a fun way to include an iconic character old school NPC into the Realms. Maybe if I ever end up running Dragon Heist properly, I'll follow it up with this idea.

What do you think? Would the trapmaster set up shop in Skullport and use Undermountain as a proving ground for his work?

Music Monday - Out of the Black

I discovered this video last week (even though it's four years old). It's nuts and I wanted to share.

Vigilantes Files Con Exclusive 2019

I just finished printing, folding, stapling, and hand numbering 50 copies of The Lone Bards Vigilante Files Con Exclusive 2019 for Gen Con. These ten page zines, designed for Bloat Games Vigilante City and other OSR supers games, feature three previously released Lone Bards classes: paragon, amazon, and sentinel. It also is the only place you will be able to find the Super Fan class (a support class that uses their pop culture knowledge to help vigilantes). If you're attending Gen Con and want one, find me. If you aren’t already Facebook friends with me, message the Lone Bards Facebook page and we can meet up.

Dread Cornthulhu

This is a follow up to yesterday's Corn Pox post. Inspiration for Cornthulhu's stats was take from Colossus, Arise!.
Art by Andy Hopp
Cornthulhu: Init -10, Atk See Below;  AC 20; HD 20d16+100; MV 1,500'; Act 2d14 (see below) ., otherwise 2d30; SP immune to normal sized critical hits; Fort +20, Ref -5, Will +10; AL C

Cornthulhu can make two attacks per round. Consult the table below.

1d14/Attack
1-4 Cornthulhu focuses one of its attacks on destroying a nearby structure. Creatures in the structure must make a DC 15 Reflex save or take 2d6 damage from the rubble (plus any falling damage for those higher more than one story up.

5-8 Cornthulhu focuses on npc's in the area. Killing dozens of them in a single blow.

9 Kernels fly from Cornthulhu's massive body target 1d6 pc's. They must make a DC 10 Reflex save or take 2d20+10 damage.

10 Cornthulhu swats at a PC. They must make a DC 20 Reflex save, to avoid. Failure means they take 10d6+20 damage and are hurled back 100'.

11 Cornthulhu attempts to step on its enemies. all creatures in a 25' radius must make a DC 15 Reflex save or be instantly slain, crushed beneath his corny might!

12 Cornthulhu pounds his fists into the ground. Creatures within 50' must make a DC 15 Reflex save or DC 10 Fortitude save (player's choice) to maintain their balance. All creatures within the radius are blinded by dust their next turn. Those that fail their saving throw with a natural 1-5 fall into crevasses created by the creatures impact. They take 3d6 damage.

13 Cornthulhu releases spores. All creatures within a mile radius must make a DC 15 Fortitude save or contract Corn Pox.

14 Cornthulhu decides to eat 1d4+1 pc's. The players with the lowest luck score must make DC 20 Reflex save or be swallowed hole.

Corn Pox

I had a crazy idea based on this Onion article. Be careful that your Mutant Crawl Classics character doesn't contract... Corn Pox!

In the time of the ancients insidious corporations sought to modify their corn crops to maximize profit. Unfortunately this tampering became out of control. While the corn (which came to be known as monocorn) was delicious, it had a nasty side affect of mutating and change humans that come into contact with its stalks.

Monocorn seems to be a blessing at first. It is highly delicious and able to provide a day's worth of nutrition in just one cooked ear. In addition it heals 1d6 hit points from those that eat it. Unfortunately the genetic structure of the corn can alter pure strain humans. Any pure strain human touching Monocorn while it's still on the stalk must make a DC 10 Fortitude saving throw or contract Corn Pox. When the disease takes hold the victims flesh and bones begin to turn into corn as the Monocorn's roots take hold. Until the affliction is cured, they must make a DC 10 Fortitude saving throw each morning when they rise. With each failed save they become more and more corn like. Once they fail three such saves they find themselves fully transformed into a corn based plantient. Their current character loses all abilities and becomes a level 1 plantient (though they may keep their attributes if they wish). They also begin to hear the call of the dreaded Cornthulhu...

A Deadly Foe For Your 5E Games - Florida Man!

I can honestly say that I don't know what's wrong with Florida, but they seem to have the strangest folks. A quick Google search of "The Adventures of Florida Man" will show you that. Some brave soul has taken the chaos and given it stats.

A King's Weapon for 5E

I found this epic 5th edition conversion of Stormbreaker from the MCU on Crosshead Studio's Twitter. He created it for his Patreon. Check it out!

It's ridiculously powerful, but was designed to take down Thanos.

Deadite DCC Update

My Ash Wednesday post was really popular in the DCC RPG Rocks! Facebook group. I had some good suggestions. I slightly revised the Deadite, created an Evil Dead template, and created a pdf with them. You can download that here.

RIP - Rutger Hauer

It's been reported that Rutger Hauer has passed. He was a fantastic actor and has been in so many great films. While this may sound strange, one of my favorite roles he played was the Hobo from the grindhouse flick, Hobo with a Shotgun. In honor of his passing and that brutal, but entertaining flick, I've statted the titular hobo out for Vigilante City. One of these days I'll start working on Grindhouse city and create a class inspired by that character, but until then the hobo will be a dark avenger.

Ash Wednesday - The Evil Dead (DCC)

Deadite
The Evil Dead (also known as Deadites) are a horrifying combination of un-dead demon, bodies possessed and/or animated by a Kandarian demon. They are vile creatures that seek to bring Hell and destruction to the mortal realms. They are fierce fighters and insidious infiltrators, able to appear as their host bodies regular form and access their memories.

Evil Dead: Init +1, Atk claw or bite +5 melee (2d4 plus possession);  AC 12; HD 5d6; MV 30', 30' Fly; Act 1d20; SP luring, regenerate 1d3 HP a round, deadite possession, type I demon traits, un-dead traits; Fort +5, Ref +2, Will +2; AL C

A victim wounded by a Deadite must make a DC 15 Fort or Will save (player's choice) or become possessed by a Kandarian demon in 1d6 hours. They become an NPC Deadite and gain all of the SP abilities listed above. They cannot regenerate damage from fire, magic weapons, spells, or monsters with 5 or more HD. The only way to permanently dispatch one of the Evil Dead is via dismemberment, immolation, or magic. The Kandarian demon will go dormant when exposed to direct sunlight (potentially allowing the player to temporarily take control of the character back).

Every Judge Needs A Bailiff

I recently received some really cool rewards from Inner Ham for chipping in on this year's printing costs for the Gongfarmer's Almanac.  The first of these rewards I wanted to talk about is The Bailiff. In addition to some cool art, this is a mini judge screen (made from sturdy material) with random tables for when your mind goes blank.  Here are the tables you can find:

  • 30 NPC Names
  • 20 Evocative Place Names
  • 24 Odd Things Found in Pockets & Packs
  • 20 NPC Mannerisms
  • 20 NPC Goals
  • 1d7 Random Levels for Hirelings
  • 5 Weird Weather Conditions
  • Alternate Starting Equipment (1d30) - designed specifically for one-shots
  • Alternate Birth Augurs (1d24) - designed specifically for one-shots
In addition there is a small section that discusses how to spice up monsters and ready made reoccurable monsters, the Humanites. There's also a nice suggestion of you using clothes pins with the screen to keep track of initiative.

Even if you don't play DCC The Bailiff is a really useful screen. You can grab your own here for just 2.95.

#SewerLife - Diggs

I remember seeing this picture in one of the Dragon Magazines I had in the late 90's. It was from a Gamma World Alternity article. I found it again recently and decided to make some content for it. Here's an npc you can add to your Crawling Under A Broken Moon Umerica games.

Diggs the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle
The mutant turtle known as Diggs is the heir to a heroic legacy. The son of Raphael, Diggs and his brothers (Jones and Smith) were named after great artists of their father's youth, the Wu-Tang Clan. An angry young mutant, he is the last surviving member of his family. He travels the wastes of Umerica, seeking to help the helpless.

Init +4, Atk Machete or Baseball Bat +4 melee (1d6+2); AC 15; HD 6d10+6; MV 12', 12' Swim; Act 1d20/1d14; SP amphibious, Might Deeds (d3), +5 to Sneak Silently and Hide in Shadows;  SV Fort +4, Ref +5, Will +3; AL L

Vigilante Files: 2019 Con Exclusive

I am happy to announce that I will have something really cool to bring to Gen Con with me. Josh and I are hard at work putting together the Vigilante Files: 2019 Con Exclusive. This short zine will contain the three Vigilante City classes we've made (Paragon, Amazon, and Sentinel) as well as a brand new, only available in the zine class... the Super Fan.

I originally had planned on calling it the Fan Boy. Then I decided to go with Fan Boy/Fan Girl. Finally I decided Super Fan would be the best name because it's the most inclusive term. The class will be able to use their vast knowledge of pop culture and vigilantes to aid their allies.

We will be printing 30-50 copies of the zine and the only way to get one is to find me at Gen Con. We are also working with Sticker Man to get Lone Bards bumper stickers printed.

The layout is partially done and the writing of the first draft is done. Josh just needs to create art for the new class and we need to right our forward.

If you can't make it to Gen Con and are in Ohio, I will have a smaller print run that I'm taking with me to Con on the Cob.

Beware The Meth-Gators!

Meth Gators have been in the news lately. While drugs would be too diluted to actually affect gators, it's a great monster idea. Feel free to add meth-gators to  your Country Crawl Classics and Umerica games. Don't be surprised if a version of this ends up in a Lone Bards zine in the future.

Meth-Gator

Init +1, Atk Bite +4 melee (3d4); AC 18; HD 4d8; MV 30' or Swim 40'; Act 1d20/1d14; SP camouflage, exploding heart, hyper aware; SV Fort +5, Ref +2, Will -3; AL N

Meth-gators are masters of camouflage and receive a +10 bonus to all attempts at hiding. The drugs coursing through their system also make them hyper aware, giving them a +5 bonus to spotting intruders in their swampy domains. However, the drugs coursing through their system has negative effects. If a meth-gator fumbles on an attack it's heart violently explodes, leaving those within a 15 radius splattered in gator gore.

What Is Flammable Hospital?

I had a nice chat the other day with Jarrett Crade, the twisted mastermind behind Country Crawl Classics. Towards the end of the conversation he mentioned noticing my copy was damaged and asked if I'd like a fresh copy. Today I received my new copy AND a copy of a probably related item, Flammable Hospital. I say they are probably related because they were made by a lot of the same mad folk and one of the endings from CCC has your characters arriving at Flammable Hospital.

So what is Flammable Hospital? Well it's a hospital that's constantly on fire. It's also a treatise/memoir on the act of writing and getting high legally. Finally, its a 12 page zine (counting inside covers) of a bizarre TV soap opera meets wtf charts and tables. There's a name chart, a couple of character creation charts, one zero level, and another variable. There's an extremely bizarre random events chart, and some other just weird tables and such. There is a map of the hospital and a list of the the departments.

Honestly, I'm not 100% what to make of Flammable Hospital. What is it? It's an exercise in zine madness. I love it though. It's just so weird and I really appreciate Jarrett sending me a copy.

Mind Games Review

UX02: Mind Games is a 60+ page psionic rules set designed for Dungeon Crawl Classics by Shield of Faith Studios.  The rules feel like the mimic 2nd editions psionic rules in a lot of ways, which is what I grew up on. While originally designed for Crawling Under A Broken Moon, these can be used with just about any DCC setting. The rules are written in a way that makes psionics different from cleric and wizard magic (without being more complex) and are strong, but don't feel more powerful than those other DCC staples. While I think psionics sometimes feel out of place in other D&D settings, they feel great with DCC's Appendix N design in mind.

The book presents a new class, the Psion. Psions can choose powers from one of four disciplines which are tied to four different main attributes. Among these disciplines, there are over 50 powers to choose from. Much like the spells of the core book, the powers take up a majority of Mind Games. There are also rules for psionic duels, which are a staple of psychic fiction.

There are several pages that present psionic items. These can be living crystal weapons (which are like intelligent swords), psychogenic baubles (which are like Ioun stones), brow jewelry, and psychic tomes. There are five new psionic creatures (braingineer, cerebear, Edacious Encephelon, Hive Mind, and lobstrosityrant) and a critical table for them.

Reid has an excellent system here. It really does fit into DCC with not much adjustment and adds to the over the top, anything could happen, nature of the game. I would love to take this, make some adjustments and do a Dark Sun DCC game. If you've ever wanted to add some psychic goodness to your DCC game pick this one up. Get your copy here. I don't think you'll be disappointed... actually I think you'll have your mind blown.

Con-ventional Wisdom

My dude, Wirty, shared these with me a few weeks back because this will be my first GenCon. They're really insightful and I wanted to pass them along to others who may be new to gaming cons (or at least the big ones).

Vampires for LotFP

This is a follow up to my review of Draugr & Draculas. When Josh was working on it I asked him if he thought about including a dhampyr class. He said it's a good idea, but that he couldn't come up with anything that topped the class presented in this post. Going to be honest, after I read it, I totally understand. This is a fantastic vampire class and could also work for a dhampyr. I think when you add this class to a game using Draugr & Draculas, you truly have a complete vampiric package.

GenCon Hype Is Rising!

Three weeks from now I will be at my first GenCon! This will also be the first time I've taken an overnight trip out of state in five years or so. I'm going with fam on this one and we'll be staying at a con-connected hotel, which is awesome.

Josh and I have talked about con-exclusive material from The Lone Bards. I'm thinking maybe it will be an adventure? I will also definitely be printing copies of Slashers & Victims to give out to folks that want it.

I'm really stoked to meet several of my online gamer friends, especially the sweetest man in the world, Diogo. I plan on having a few drinks and doing some impromptu gaming with folks, so look for me.

In case anyone's curious, here's my schedule.

Sparkle*Kitty looks like a blast. If I enjoy it, I will definitely by a copy to play with friends and the kids at the library. It will be really nice to attend the two Tabletop Gaymer events I have planned. Looking forward to relaxing in a free and open space with other gaymers. Mantic's The Walking Dead games look cool, so I figured the Walker Challenge would be a cool way to test drive the rules. Shuffling Horrors is a B-movie inspired card game I've been wanting to try. I've never played QAGS, but y'all know I'm a big lucha fan. I might even get a luchador mask to wear while playing. I'm always stoked to play DCC and had a great time doing a DCC Lankhmar game at Origins last year. Finally the Gamer Dice Jewelry just seemed like a fun thing to learn how to make. I have so many gamer friends, it'd be a cool way to make geeky gifts for them.

I can't wait. Still have some LB prep work to do, plus pickup a messenger bag, borrow mom's suitcase, and figure out what I'm taking with me, but this should be an awesome trip and I can't wait to make some amazing memories.

Draugr & Draculas Review

This week I received some Kickstarter goodness!

Draugr & Draculas is a one shot zine written by my friend Josh of JHLB Polytechnic and Bernie The Flumph. Last week I reviewed the first issue of Josh's zine, Crepuscular, if you if you missed it, check it out.

There is 60+ pages of amazing content packed into this little zine. Josh did every piece of art except for one, which was done by industry icon, Bradley K, McDevitt. I love Josh's style. Here's what you're getting if you pick this up.

  • Draugr - three pages of undead viking goodness. There are stats for Draugr, Greater Draugr, Druagr Lords, and the unique Draugr Queen they all serve. There's a phenomenal piece of art for her.
  • Draugr Karl ("Free Man") - This class allows you to play an undead viking. While they are free-willed they still serve their Queen. They have some really cool abilities and eat flesh. What more could you want in a class?
  • Pagan's Well - Pagan's well is an adventure site. It has a cool map and 12 encounter locations. Adventure hooks are also provided.
  • Satanic Pacts - You made a deal with the Devil, now what? This short article describes how you can make a magical bargain with Satan and gifts he can grant you. There are many cool ones and the names are often humorous or related to pop culture. I think Red Right Hand and Black Phillip were my favorite names. I really enjoy the art for this entry.
  • Vampires - This is a discussion about what vampirism is and how it affects mortals. It divides vampires into two groups (weaker plebs and older patricians). There's a lot of lore and flavor about them, including how to combat the blood suckers. Note: There are powerful vampires that don't fall into these categories.
  • Count Dracula - The Lord of the Night gets a few pages of content specific too him proper. We're presented with his background, a secret origin chart (which has some fantastic ideas), and his stats. As you'd imagine, he's a quite the challenge to face.
  • Dracula's Minions - several pages are devoted to Drac's chief minions, which are a hunchback, wolfman, fish-woman, invisible wizard, his brides (three vampire plebs), and three disciples (vampire patricians).
  • Dracula's Castle - This sections starts with a fantastic centerfold map that shows the 36 major locations for the Count's castle. There is a random encounter tables, a spooking happenings table, and the major rooms get brief snap shots. It also looks like a map from one of the Castlevania games.

  • Vampire Hunter - This class is phenomenal class uses a whip, fights as a fighter, saves as a cleric and can do whip tricks (which basically function like Mighty Deeds of Valor from Dungeon Crawl Classics). They are also strong willed, have true faith, know a bit of folk magic that helps them face the undead, and have a talisman tied to their quest to slay the vampire scourge.
  • Elizabeth Bathory - Bathory is Dracula's pupil, but eventually betrayed the Count and became his great rival. She's quite powerful, serves Lamia, and uses the reanimated corpse of her former lover as a bodyguard (stats given). Elizabeth's art is the one piece not done by Josh. It's a great piece and Bradley outdid himself. I do admit it feels just a little out of place though because it's not the same style as the rest of the book. Not a critique of the piece though, it's awesome!
  • Bathory's Blood Magic - A few pages are devoted to the blood magic of ancient Lamia. It can be unlocked by a unique spell that can only be cast by women.
  • New Spells - Five new spells are presented, they very in level, though one is extremely powerful. My favorite is a tribute to Radu of Subspecies.
  • New Magic Items - The final section details four new magic items. One is a valuable tool for those that face evil, two are related to the Draugr, and one is the very sword wielded by Count Dracula!
If you can't tell, I absolutely love this zine! Josh really outdid himself with it and the book is worth more than the Kickstarter of post-Kickstarter price, in my opinion. The artwork is phenomenal and there isn't wasted space. The inside covers contain the location maps found within the tome.

I'll be honest this made me smile too:

The picture of my name in the Special Thanks To: section also leads me to one last thing I wanted to mention. This zine can easily be used in any old school game, but was designed with Lamentations of the Flame Princess in mind. Josh includes a note about what that means.

If you've ever wanted to play a Castlevania campaign, this zine is for you. The pdf will be available at the JHLB Polytechnic publisher page on DriveThruRPG soon.

Ash Wednesday - Ash (Umerican Version)

Since I've been in a DCC mood, I've decided to stat Ash out as a character for Umerica/Crawling Under a Broken Moon. This makes sense because the alternate ending of Army of Darkness features him waking up in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Given all the iconic building in the background, I'd assume he work up in Vegas.

Also you might remember, but this isn't the first time I've statted Ash for DCC. He previously appeared as a post for my Marvel Crawl Classics series.

You can also download this in pdf form here.

The Carnival of the Damned

The Carnival of the Damned is a 0-level tournament-style Dungeon Crawl Classics adventure written by David Baity (of Dark Trails fame).

The premise of The Carnival of the Damned is fantastic. The characters are a band of villagers trapped in a mist shrouded carnival searching for the children of the village.

Unlike most funnels, this adventure has an elaborate back story, that the party will discover as they move through the dark carnival. It's a tragic tale of a jester finding and losing love, a unicorn, and the dark bargain he made to a mad clown god to save his life. There are several items found throughout the adventure to relay this story.

The carnival includes 28 twisted encounter locations. My favorite locations are the Petting Zoo (which includes killer bunnies and transparent cow) and The Tattoo Parlor (where you can get some magical ink). In addition there are 12 random carnival encounters. There are multiple paths to take and to finish the adventure (including built-in justified railroading), so this can be played with the same group multiple times and the experience will be different.

I would be doing the book a disservice if I didn't mention the art. It's thoroughly creepy and fitting. I love every piece. It's menacing, but often humorous, which is a great co

Even if you don't play DCC, this is a great adventure to pick up. Given the mist shrouded nature of the carnival, I think you could easily use this as your introduction to Curse of Strahd. Perhaps Gelos is a servant of Strahd or another entity trapped by the Dark Powers.

To folks that like horror adventures I highly recommend this one. It contains excellent writing, cool art, and a great story. You can run it multiple times and it will still feel fresh. There are so many unique monsters and magic items, you can pull from this for a long time. Finally, DCC is very rules lite (when you look past the charts), so this one wouldn't be hard to convert to your favorite variation of D&D.

You can grab print copies of The Carnival of the Damned here.

YeeHaw!!!! (Country Crawl Classics Review)

I recently received my DCC Holy Grail, Country Crawl Classics. I didn't know this marvel existed until Daniel Bishop posted about it last year. This was created by a veritable conglomeration of DCC folks and Daniel lists them in his post.

CCC feels like Adventure Time if you gave it some dip, backwoods hooch, and forced it to listen to Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings for three days straight. Or if you combined Redneck Zombies and Smokey and the Bandit, but decided to have Tom Waits do the soundtrack. Oh and add some Idiocracy and Brawndo the Thirst Mutilator into the mix for good measure.

The zine contains character generation (including occupations and equipment). There's a new feature called the misery die. This lowers your characters rolls but will eventually reward your character with increased lucky when you pass the misery around.

There is a running CCC on the fly section which lets you run a game of Country Crawl Classics anywhere and anytime (though I don't recommend doing doing Sunday school). The charts are all entertaining and had me laughing.  There is a funnel adventure that includes cannibals and space vampires. There are also several new critters to face, the fearsome being Elvis AI! Country Crawl Classics can easily be used for a hillbilly Umerican game if that's an idea that interests you.

Okay this zine is no where near politically correct or polite. Michael Curtis gave Appalachian culture a respectful representation in The Chained Coffin. You're not going to find that here. This plays on all of the negative stereotypes of country folk and is a bleak game. Thing is, even though I’m proud of my Appalachian upbringing, I’ve witnessed the darker side that inspired this first hand. That’s why I don’t find this offensive. The topics are presented in an absurd way. Honestly, I can't wait to run it for my friends. I might even come up with some new content for it.

A Letter From The Howling Crater

You know your letter's going to be good when it comes from a hazardous landmark, known for a crashed space ship and a family of mutant cannibal rednecks. Levi (from Planet X Games) has been sending out missives to supporters and such to drum up interest in his latest Kickstarter and to say thanks. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I love what he sent me. This is a really nice touch and Levi's a great guy. I love everything about this (especially the custom drawing on the inside of the card).

Please take a moment to check out the Kickstarter for An Occurrence at Howling Crater and consider backing it. A rising tide lifts all ships. Levi is a cool dude and creates amazing content.

Meat Planet!!! (Hobonomicon #1)

Issue 1 of the Hobonomicon picks up where Issue 0 ended.  The book starts with a continuation of comics from the previous issue and a new one called The Cube. It's dark, but familiar to anyone that's worked in an office.

Now I'm going to take a quick break before I continue. If you are going to play the adventure contained within, stop reading now!

Okay now that it's just Judges and other potential purchasers here I'll continue.

We are given a glimpse of the last days after the Planet Punjar's demise and then what became of humanity. We then jump ahead 587 years, as humanity prepares to embark on an expedition to the MEAT PLANET!

As with the previous issue, everything, from the characters origins, stats, to how they get to the planet is randomly rolled. In addition, the locations they visit, sights they see, and end of the adventure all come from rolls.

The Meat Planet itself is very gross and visceral. It really gives an unsettling fleshy feel. There are also some really cool mechanics involved. If I player gets killed they are absorbed by the planet, you slip them a handout, and they become Meat Clones. They still seek to help the party but they also subtly try to get the party in the meat pods.

Just like the previous issue, this issue is full of over the top sci-fi weirdness and includes some amazing art. If you want to play a session that feels like a segment from Heavy Metal, you need to pick this up asap. Also like the Issue 0 because of the random nature of this adventure, you can run it several times and it will be different every time!

If Stranger Things Was An 80's Anime

This is amazing!

I Am A Burgerite!

Crawling Under A Broken Moon Issue 12 focuses on the benevolent god, Buddy O'Burger. In the postapocalyptic wastelands of Umerica, Buddy is Lawful god of customer service, feasting, and cannibalism. Not quite sure why, but he's become one of my favorite DCC gods (hence the blog title title).

The issue details the two lives of Buddy O'Burger: the franchise before the apocalypse and the cult that rose in it's aftermath. The cannibalistic nature of Buddy's cult are discussed in detail. The issue also includes a series of adventure hooks that allow players to work with and against the cult.

The Clownight is a new disturbing class tied to the service of Buddy O'Burger. These mortals are "blessed" and transformed into clown humanoids. They are strong fighters that can heal and gain rage from cannibalism. In addition as the chosen of the church they can call of the cult for aid. However, like paladins and clerics, they must serve the will of their god.

In addition to being a god clerics of the wastes can follow, those that sling spells can bargain with Buddy O'Burger and take him as a patron. Much like the clerics, Buddy desires his wizards to follow the will of the cult. Like most fully fleshed out patrons, he has three patron spells.

Buddy O'Burger has quite a few mythical foodies associated with him and these mascots are presented in both their official church cannon lore and how they actually are. New treasures and items are presented as Jollymeal prizes and the creations of Doctor Dippinstein. Three new monsters related to the church are given stats, my favorite being the potato arachnid known as the fryder. Finally, if you want to give other chains the the Buddy O'Burger treatement rules are given for creating Avatar Golems, tools of the lesser mascot gods.

Buddy is just a fascinating creation and I think this is my favorite issue of Crawling Under A Broken Moon. Though it means playing a cannibal, I'd love the chance to play a Clownight. There's just something about playing a righteous warrior serving a god that devoted to feeding the masses... but also a dangerous cannibal, that appeals to me.

This issue of CUABM isn't the only place Buddy O'Burger appears. You can find him in the Umerican Survival Guide. His cult features prominently in Burger Wars (which I can't wait to pick up).

Here's some music I like to listen to when I practice my tenants of Buddy O'Burger's faith.
