October Horror Movie Challenge - Dagon (2001)

Synopsis: Stock market tycoon Paul and his friends run into troubles off the coast of Spain. They got to a nearby town for help, but soon discover something is very wrong with residents of Imboca.

The Good: This is an interesting take on The Shadow Over Innsmouth. I like Macarena Gomez. She's really cute in a creepy way. I enjoy Ezra Godden too. He also appeared in Gordon's Dreams in the Witch House adaptation.

The Bad: This is classic Stuart Gordon Lovecraft. The effects are cheesy and the acting isn't great, but I think that adds to the charm.

Final Thoughts: This isn't a great movie, but I like it.

In Your Game:

Deep One Hybrid (2 Point Quality)

Someone in your bloodline has had the misfortune of getting down with a deep one and living to tell the tale (or undergoing a transformation ritual). The good news is you're a good swimmer, the bad news is you're probably not going to stay too pretty and and those bad dreams aren't going away). On the plus side you gain a +2 to Sports, the ability to breath underwater, and Natural Toughness (due to the slippery nature of your skin). On the negative side the call of Cthulhu never goes away, giving you the Reoccurring Nightmares drawback. In addition you gain -1 level of Attractiveness (though many Deep One Hybrids have much more than that).

  1. I love that the phrase "Gordon's best film since Re-Animator..." is used to plug it. That Fangoria writer probably knew that there really were people who would see that and think, "Dang, this is better than Robot Jox? I've gotta see this..."

    1. Yeah, it's pretty bad, but it came out when I was first getting into Call of Cthulhu. It has a special place in my black heart for that reason.
