October Horror Movie Challenge - 31 (2016)

Synopsis: A group of carnival workers are kidnapped the night before Halloween and forced to play a twisted game called 31, which sees them hunted by various homicidal maniacs while aristocrats watch.

The Good: The opening scene is fantastic. Richard Brake's Doom-Head has a great monologue that ends with a really silly line. Pancho Moler does a fantastic job as the Adolf Hitler wannabe latino little person, Sick-Head. There are just some quirky things I dig about this one. Death-Head is played by one of the nihilists from The Big Lebowski and his lover, Sex-Head, is played by E.G. Daily (who voiced Tommy Pickles in Rugrats, Buttercup in The Power Puff Girls, and Babe in the pig movies of the same name).

The Bad: I understand that these people are messed up, but anytime a movie has a lot verbal and sexual abuse against women, I get back up a bit. Also some of the scenes are very predictable. The dinner scene didn't surprise me at all.

Final Thoughts: This is clearly a Rob Zombie movie. If you like Rob Zombie movies, you'll probably like this. If you don't, then skip it.

In Your Game:

Doom-Head

AC 7 [12]      HD: 5    Attacks: X2 switch blades (1d3+2)  Move: 12 Special: 4 in 6 chance to Hide in Shadows/Move Silently

Weakness: Doom-Head likes to monologue and will must make a saving throw to avoid doing so if the opportunity persists. If he gives a monologue he can take no other actions until it's finished or he is attacked.

  1. I just felt like this was a giant missed opportunity by Rob Zombie. The performances and overall concept were good, but the script was weak.
