Synopsis: Society has collapsed. Those in power released a chemical that instantly killed most of the population. The survivors have created various themed gangs, with the exception of those that wish to live life the way it was, the Domestics. To save his failing marriage, Mark (a domestic) has agreed to take his wife to her parents' place nearly 200 miles away.
The Good: This is one of my favorite takes on a post apocalyptic setting. It has some familiar elements like insane gangs, but then it's got elements of regular life with the domestics. I think using the radio DJ to foreshadow was clever. Finally, Tyler Hoechlin (CW's Superman) and Kate Bosworth are compelling leads. As the film progresses you learn more about the couple, see them slipping, and coming back together.
The Bad: I don't really have any complaints about this one. It was a solid flick. I would have liked to see more form some of the games, but that's a personal thing, not a critique of the film.
Final Thoughts: This was an entertaining post apocalyptic film. It has a good cast, interesting setting, and avoided the "this is too depressing" trap most films like it fall into.
In Your Game: If you want to play a game like this, SURVIVE THIS!! Zombies! 2nd Edition is perfect. Get rid of the infection saving throw and zombies and you have a great apocalyptic game that could emulate this move perfectly. The Gaslords Gang from the first STZ2E source book, Among the Living, is a perfect ready made gang to send against your party.
