October Horror Movie Challenge - 2001 Maniacs (2005)

All films I'm watching for the challenge are currently (as of posting) viewable for free on via Tubi.

A group of Yankees take a detour that leads them to the Guts and Glory Jubilee in Pleasant Valley, Georgia. Unfortunately for them, the villagers are actually the spirits of 2001 Confederate villagers slain by renegade Union troops.

While this was never the most "woke" film, it really hasn't aged well for me. This used to be a guilty pleasure one for me. It was a cheesy B movie. Even if the villains are technically vengeful spirits trying to balance the ledger so they can rest, the racist and homophobic humor makes this one a pass. It's not longer a guilty pleasure, just one that makes me feel guilty. This villains seems a little too inline with the social beliefs of folks for it to be entertaining. Horror icons, Robert Englund and Lin Shaye, do a good job as the leaders of the villagers. The movie also has lots of tits and blood, if you're into that. Also, for better or worse, Eli Roth has a cameo as his character from Cabin Fever.

Honestly, I think the current political climate has ruined this one for me.

In Your Game:  There are several nasty kills, including the malicious mastication done by Peaches. These chompers would be great for a cannibalistic villain in Vigilante City or Zombies!

Ripper Teeth

These monstrous dentures were created for the most depraved individuals. The jagged teeth are made from various and designed to create a wound that continuously bleeds. The teeth do 1d4+1 points of piercing damage and another point of bleeding damage on each of your consecutive turns until the victim takes time to stop the bleeding (by a receiving a DC 10 First Aid/Medicine/Int check).
