October Horror Movie Challenge - Blood Vessel (2019)

 Plot
A group of allied soldiers and workers are adrift in the Atlantic during World War II. They come across a Nazi ship and having no supplies left decide to take their chance aboard the ship. They find all the occupants dead and a mysterious box in the hold. Soon they find themselves facing an ancient, evil family.

Review
This was a fun weird war romp. I love stories that mix Nazis and occult horror. I'm used to zombies Nazis in movies, but vampires seem like a fresh mix to me. The protagonists are a mixed group (two Brits, an Australian, a Russian, and several Americans).  My favorite is Teplov the Russian sniper. He's definitely the protagonist of the film and has the coolest scenes. Taking place on a ship, it feels very claustrophobic at times, which adds suspense. The creature effects are practical and look pretty cool. If you want some bat-like vampires, then this is the flick for you. These strigori also have some really cool powers.

Like typical vampires, strigori regenerate 3 HP of damage from normal attacks every combat round.  Additionally all damage dealt to them is reduce by half (rounded down), except for that done by fire, magic, or holy weapons. Those types of damage also can't be regenerated in the normal fashion. A strigori can possess anyone that it has bitten. This takes an action and the victim must make a Mental saving throw. On a failure strigori gains the power to see through the victim's eyes and control their bodies. At the beginning of a victim's turn they may make another mental saving throw. If successful they can act on their own free will that turn, but must make another successful saving throw at the beginning of their next turn to keep control. Additionally they can create convincing illusions in the minds of mortals.
