October Horror Challenge - Jennifer's Body (2009)

"We Are The Weirdos Mister" was obviously inspired by The Craft. While I thought about watching that one, I thought I'd go with a different feminist teen flick in which the primary characters have strange powers and/or are the villains. Jennifer and Needy both have demonic powers by the stories conclusion, so I think Jennifer's Body is a fitting choice.

Plot
When cheerleader Jennifer (Megan Fox) is possessed by a demon because of a sacrifice gone wrong, it's up to her bff Needy (Amanda Seyfried) to stop her boy hungry rampage.

Review
Megan Fox plays the perfect mean girl bitch. This is not a critique of her as a person, but she looks the part and when I was watching this I thought of some girls I went to school with. In contrast, Amanda Seyfried's needy was the perfect plain Jane best friend (with secret homoerotic crush). Johnny Simmons is an adorable and clueless boyfriend. Adam Brody plays a perfect sleezy frontman that would do anything to get his band fame.

The supporting cast is phenomenal. In particular I love J.K. Simmons as the in touch with his feelings teacher, Mr. Wroblewski. Other familiar faces have small roles like Amy Sedaris, Kyle Gallner, Chris Pratt, Bill Fagerbakke, and Lance Henricksen.

This movie was slept on when it released. I think a big part of that is it was marketed to horny guys instead of women. There are some great feminist themes in this one, but they'd be lost on a guy that watched the film just hoping to see Megan Fox naked.

The film has a fun sense of humor and some nice gore. Its heartfelt at times and heartbreaking at others. Diablo Cody and Karyn Kusama did a wonderful job writing and directing this one. That's not to say the film is perfect. Some of the the cool young person slang sounds really forced. I can look past this though. Overall, I've always dug this movie and I'm glad its seen more favorably today than when it was originally released.

In Your Game
At some point I'd like to create rules for demonic transference as presented in the movie. Until this here are possessed Jennifer stats for What Shadows Hide.
