Amazon for OSE

Another update from Light City to OSE.

Amazon

Requirements: Minimum STR 12
Prime requisite: STR
Hit Dice: 1d6
Armour: Any archaic, including shields
Weapons: Any archaic
Languages: Amazonian, one other language

Amazons are a race of women immortalize in myth and literature. They have remained largely isolated from the rest of the planet for thousands of years, leading to wildly divergent speculation on the nature of their society. Only a few details are known with certainty… they are resistant to outside influence, they excel in my great pursuits of humankind (notably art, medicine, and philosophy), and they their excellence is most visible to the world at large in the actions of Amazon warriors.

Master of Deflection:

When armed with a shield, gauntlets, or armored bracelets the amazon may add twice their Dexterity bonus to AC vs. ranged attacks.

Blessings of the Goddess:
At 1st level, the amazon gets an additional 1d6 added to their strength (maximum 20). Whenever they gain a level she rolls a 1d20; if the result is greater than their current strength bonus, they gets a +1 to strength.

 Amazon Martial Arts:
At 3rd level, the amazon has gained enough skill in their native fighting techniques to deal significant damage even when disarmed. Their unarmed strikes now deal 1d6-1 damage.

Gift of the Ancients:
At 4th level, the amazon is given a weapon from her society’s magical armory, imbued with powers beyond simple damage-dealing. A successful hit with the weapon damages the target must make a spells/rods/staves saving throw. Upon failure the target is entangled for 1d6 rounds. While entangled the target is affected by the weapons special power. At the end of each entanglement phase, the target must save or become entangled for another 1d6 rounds.

1. No gift this level (roll again when a  new level is gained)

1.       …of Cowardice

Target becomes fearful and will attempt to flee

2. Bolas… (range 30’, 1d6-1 damage)

2.       …of Deception

Target can be convinced of falsehoods

3. Chain… (melee weapon, 1d6+1 damage)

3.       …of Destiny

Target gets a glimpse of their own destiny

4. Lasso… (range 20’, 1d6 damage

4.       …of Devotion

Target becomes hopelessly committed to the amazon

5. Net… (range 20’, no damage, no save to prevent entanglement

5.       …of Forgetting

Target will forget facts of the amazon’s choice

6. Whip… (range 10’, d6+1 damage)

6.       …of Truth

Target must only speak the truth

Combat:
Amazons are skilled at combat but very set in their ways. They will only use archaic arms and armor. They will not use firearms, energy weapons, or equipment incorporating modern or advanced technologies or materials (unless such an item is amazon in origin).

After Reaching 8th-Level:

At 8th-level, the amazon has earned the right to establish an embassy for their people in the world of man. It will be staffed by 1d4 1st level amazons and 2d10 normal humans (a mix of non-classed amazons and locals). The amazon’s nation pays for the expenses of having the embassy built and staffed, but the amazon must stay in good standing to use it.

  1. Love the embassy bit!

This one and the Brute present nice case studies for figuring out how to best handle super-stats in the OSE framework.

    1. Establishing a stronghold and/or gaining followers seems to be a big deal with the OSE classes, so it made sense to me. And let's be honest, I just took the amazing framework you laid down and made some tweaks and minor additions.

  2. Well, that is overly kind, but thank you!

This project of yours has me stoked about OSR rules again, although I think I'll cling to Species + Class as separate entities, BFRPG-style. Gotta check out what kind of Amazon races have been homebrewed out there...
