I think it fitting to start A-Z by talking about the founder of the modern incarnation of the Suicide Squad, Amanda Waller. During the Legends miniseries Darkseid plotted to take over Earth. This caused, then president Ronald Reagan, to temporarily outlaw superheroes. Waller convinced the government to greenlight, Task Force X, and thus the Suicide Squad was born. My first introduction to Waller was in the Bloodlines/Bloodbath crossover of the early 90's, though it was Justice League Unlimited first season that really shown me what kind of character she was. While I do love Viola Davis' live action portrayal, it’s the DCAU version (voiced by the amazing CCH Pounder) that's my favorite film or tv version. She's done quite a bit in various DC stories. In addition to the Suicide Squad she brought together the New 52's Justice League of America (though the less we talk about the sexy New 52 version of Waller the better). She also served on President Lex Luthor's cabinet. Finally in the DCAU she is responsible for the creation of Batman Beyond. While she doesn't reciprocate she managed to gain the romantic intentions of Jim Gordon's son James (5e stats here).
Waller doesn't trust metahumans and has recently taken a more villainous turn because wants them all dead.
The stats below are for OG Waller. Keep in mind that while she might not be the toughest in a fight she always has operatives nearby and has access to incredible tech.
It's too bad that they haven't made an action figure of her in a long time, if ever. What good is having a bunch of Suicide Squad figures if you don't have Waller? One time I thought it'd be cool if they made the original Waller as a Build-A-Figure. You know, where each figure in a set has a piece you put together.
ReplyDeleteBesides the New 52, probably better to skip over her appearance (played by Angela Bassett) in "Green Lantern." I think they killed her off too which is another reason that movie was not great.
I’d love a good Waller figure. I think the only figure they’ve made is her was for Justice League Unlimited. She’d be a great BAF candidate.
DeleteI liked Angela Bassett in GL! Of course, I really like Angela Bassett. And...the New 52 vibes might have been too strong there...
DeleteGREAT one to start with. I always rather liked Amanda Waller.
