Love At First Frostbite

Fights urge to make a "Baby It's Cold Outside Joke"...

The second issue of Conspiracy Theories A SURVIVE THIS!! Zine is now available. One again, Jodie has knocked it out of the park. This issue is primarily devoted to Zombies! 2nd Edition, though there are some handy charts for The Vigilante Hack and Vigilante City.

The issue starts out with a new class for your zombie games, The Kid. This is one I had been thinking about doing and now I don't need to, because Jodie's class is phenomenal. Kids are sneaky, brave, and have a decent time going unnoticed and blending in. Unlike other classes they can't have any stats higher than 14. The class ends with slingshot weapon stats and a new kid-centric background chart.

The next focus takes up most of the zine. Frostbitten is an adventure seed generator a mini campaign setting for Zombies! 2nd Edition. As you can probably guess it takes place in the frozen north of Alaska and Canada. An interesting aspect of the setting is that while zombies the antagonist, so is the environment itself. Jodie presents several new environmental rules for Frostbitten dealing with cold and survival. Humans are resourceful, so we're presented with some new equipment that will help you survive. This is followed by bastion of civilization in the setting, Bears Creek, Alaska. We're presented with a few notable npcs with stats. Natural predators are a danger in the frozen north, but the zombies are much worse. They'v begun to evolve and adapt to the cold. The new zombies are Ice Runners and Frozen Behemoths. Finally there is a boogie man in the north... unfortunately he's real. The Snow Lord is an extremely powerful undead creature that zombies flock too. The campaign info ends with 1d10 adventure hooks.

The last section of the zine introduces a few charts to flesh out the villains in your Vigilante City and The Vigilante Hack games. There's a 2d6 motivation table and a 1d4 worldview motivation.

I think I like this issue even better than the first. There are some wonderful ideas in here and I love Frostbitten. You could also take it and do a 30 Days of Night one shot or mini campaign if you'd want to stat some vampires. Speaking of which... I might do that later today.

Bottom line, if you like books in the SURVIVE THIS!! line, then you should pick this up. Also, if you've not already checked it out, go back and snag the first issue.

  1. And purchased! It's beginning to look like from next year the bulk of gaming purchases are going to from (or for) Bloat Games!
