Much like Captain Boomerang, Deadshot is a common fixture in Suicide Squad line-ups. His origin changes from time to time (like most comic book characters), but typically Floyd Lawton grew up wealthy and had a cruel father. He typically ends up wounding or killing his brother, mother, and father in most origins. He trained with David Cain (father of Cassandra Cain/Batgirl/Black Bat/Orphan) and the League of Assassins. He often clashes with Batman and is a deadly sniper. However, more often than not he's portrayed as an antihero in Waller's Task Force X. He has a personal code of ethics and tends to be very protective of his family (whether its his daughter or teammates). He also tends to be depicted as a man with a death wish. He's not actively suicidal, but is welcoming of a good death.
Three actors have portrayed live action versions of Deadshot. Bradley Stryker played him in Smallville, Michael Rowe played him in the Arrowverse (see below), and finally Will Smith played him in Ayer's Suicide Squad. Honestly I think both Rowe and Smith portrayed relatively comic accurate versions though in different ways. If you want to see a comparison, check out this ScreenRant post. Michael Rosenbaum voiced him in the DCAU. He also appeared in Batman: The Brave and the Bold and Justice League Action. Neil McDonough voiced him in Batman: Assault of Arkham and Christian Slater did so in Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay. While all the voice actors are great, I think Slater is my favorite.
Though it's not Task Force X related, I also wanted to share his original 1950's costume (which you can see below), because he looks like Tuxedo Mask.
Deadshot has long been one of my favourites. There's something about this archetype (which also includes Marvel's Bullseye and Star Wars' Crosshair - from The Bad Batch) that really appeals to me.
ReplyDeleteI have the figure of the Will Smith version but I think I liked the Arrow version better. It seemed like in the Gunn movie they just slotted in Bloodsport as his replacement.
ReplyDeleteAs long as he is not as worthless as Tuxedo Mask!
