Introducing... The Lone Bards

Justin: Who'd win in a wresting match? Gygax or God?
Random Person: Gygax.
[Imitates a game show buzzer]
Random Person: ... God?
Josh: Wrong, dickhead. Trick question. Gygax *IS* God.

With the completion of our first Kickstarter, Josh (of JB Publishing) and I have an announcement. We are going to to be forming a permanent partnership. Instead of publishing stuff for Halls of the Nephilim Publishing or JB Publishing, like Voltron were are combining forces to form...The Lone Bards!

We've got many projects in the works and we're really excited. We'll be unveiling our logo in the coming month. Stay tuned!

Also 10,000 bonus XP if you get the reference with our name.

From The Pages of Punvaraxus Update

In the last post I talked about my zine I said I wanted to have the first issue out by Halloween. I'm not 100% that will happen now, but I have some good reasons for that. I recently emailed Goodman Games and have received copies of the licence agreements for Mutant Crawl Classics and Dungeon Crawl Classics. Even though I'm making indie stuff, I want to do it the legit way and Goodman Games is really good about supporting their third party material. There are a few things I want to do before submitting those forms. I'd like to be in my new apartment and have a professional looking website for Halls of the Nephilim Publishing. If I'm going to do this. I'm going to do it right.

Also, remember if you have any ideas or content you want to submit it to pagesofpunvaraxus at outlook dot com. You still own the rights to what you submit and I'll send you a free print copy of the issue your work appears in.

From the Pages of Punvaraxus - Initial Issues

As I mentioned yesterday I'm creating a new DCC zine called From the Pages of Punvaraxus. I've reached out to a few different folks I know for contributions and the reception has been good. As I mentioned, the first issues will focus on the Seven Deadly Sins.

This is the material I have written or have planned so far:

  1. Sloth
    • The Cosmic Slacker class - The Dude in DCC form (me)
    • Temple of the High Snoozer - adventure (David Coppoletti) - being revised
    • New Monsters - ditch dwarf, sleep ooze, sentient snuggy (me and David Copoletti) - being revised
    • New Spells (me)
  2. Lust
    • Lilith patron - including all relevant tables and three spells (Delectable Reaper, Lilith's Spite, Lilith Immaculate) (me) -finished
    • New Monsters - daughter of Lilith, scabbed-winged angel, Succubot (me) - finished
  3. Gluttony
    • The Gorger patron - including all relevant tables and three spells (Eat Anything, Glorify Obesity, and Elicit Hunger)
  4. Wrath
  5. Envy
  6. Pride
  7. Greed
If you have ideas or want to submit, that would be wonderful. Again just reach out to me by sending things to pagesofpunvaraxus at outlook dot com. I want to have the first issue out by Halloween, but I think I can get it out sooner than that.

From the Pages of Punvaraxus

"Punvaraxus, an archmage of considerable power, has learned many esoteric secrets in his travels across the planes of reality. If you're clever, strong, or lucky he will share some them with you, for a price..."

I'm starting a new Dungeon Crawl Classics zine, From the Pages of Punvaraxus. I love DCC and zines and I know I'm not alone. There's a really cool zine community for the game and I want to join in the fun and want to get my content physically in the hands of others.

I don't want to do this alone though. If you have something you'd like to submit you can do so by sending submissions to pagesofpunvaraxus at outlook dot com. All content created will be owned by the creator/author/artist. I will make sure any contributors will get free print copies of issues that feature their work.

Each issue will have its own theme. I already have the theme for the first seven issues planned out. While I don't know the order, each issue will focus on one of the Seven Deadly Sins. I've started brainstorming ideas and am in the preliminary stages of writing content. Again, if you have any cool classes, spells, patrons, monsters or anything associated with the topic and want to see your work in print, just submit to the email mentioned earlier.

The Nephilim Is Now Pay What You Want

A year ago I released my first PDF on OneBookShelf. I now have 20 pdfs. All, but the original, The Nephilim, are pay what you want. Today I decided to make it pwyw too. If you haven't already picked it up, check it out! If you like it leave a review. Heck if you didn't like it, leave a review (as long as your constructive about it).

The Witch Hunter Class

Talking with friends and working on Portsmaw has inspired me to make a new class for Continual Light, the Witch Hunter. It's definitely inspired by +MonkeyBlood Design (Glynn Seal)'s Witchfinder and if you're playing a more rules heavy version of Swords & Wizardry then I highly recommend using that class instead.

My version is also an appropriate class for a weird west game of Six-Shooters & Wagons. To use the class there, just give them knowledge of the use of pistols, hold outs, and shotguns.

Like pretty  much everything I do, it's pay what you want. You can snag it, here.

Six-Shooters & Wagons Now Available!

Six-Shooters & Wagons is now available! You can download the pay-what-you-want pdf here. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Draw!

The rough draft of Six-Shooters and Wagons is done. I've got a few folks looking over it. As of now it's 5 pages. There's a page of rules, one and a half pages of new classes (gunslinger and scout), a half page of weapons and setting specific items, and a page of critters and folks to send against your posse and the OGL. Once I get the notes, I'll make revisions. Hopefully I'll upload it to OBS by Friday.

Now we wait.

Unleash Cobra On Your Light City Game!

The newest Light City Foes pdf is one that I had extra fun making. +Jonathan Linneman introduced me to King Cobra and his organization a few years back in this post. In the post he also mentions that they seem to be very similar to the foes of my favourite military organization growing up. I took that idea and ran with it for this Light City Foes release.

You can download the pay what you want pdf here.

BTW, this is one of the greatest movie intros ever....

Legends of Light City #1 Available Now

Legends of Light City is a new series for Light City that I'll be doing. They are heroes that can be used in your LC games. They're also designed to be used as pre-made pc's.

You can download Legends of Light City #1 here. It's pay what you want.

As a bonus I present you with Lion-Man's archnemsis, Red Lash!

Red Lash

James "Congo" Smith was whip-cracking guide of dubious nature that hired himself out to African hunting expeditions. He had no loyalty to any nation and was recruited by the Soviets to help there superhuman strikeforce enter Challia. When the battle started Smith found himself sounded by a pride of lines summoned by Koroo. The creatures mauled him mercilessly and destroyed his hands. He would have perished if not for the intervention of one of the Soviet scientists. He was taken back to the USSR and given an experimental super soldier serum and insanely strong metal whips to replace his lost hands. Dubbing himself Red Lash, Smith has vowed to see Challia exploited and Lion-Man and Koroo dead at his feet.

Real Name: James "Congo" Smith
First Appearance: Adventures Into the Unknown #11 (June 1950)
AC 7 [12]      HD: 6 (35 HP)    Attacks: Red Lashes X 2 (+4 to hit, 1d6 damage, 10' range) Move: 12

While alive Red Lash will regenerate 1 HP every round.

Light City Foes: Supernatural Threats Now Available!

This issue of Light City Foes features several occult villains and a dangerous mystic tome. While I have superheroics in mind with this release, it could work well with any Swords & Wizardry Light/Continual Light game. My favourite part of working on this one was discovering a public domain version of the Death Note.

You can download Light City Foes: Supernatural Threats here. As always, it is pay what you want.

Kingdom of Crime II Now Available!

Why not release another Light City pdf this week? Kingdom of Crime II is the sequel to my first Light City Foes release... bet you could figure that out from the II at the end of the title... It's a pay what you want pdf that you can grab here. It includes several new members of the Kingdom of Crime. If you haven't downloaded the original, you can grab it here.

The Cursed for Light City Now Available!

I had toyed with making separate classes for ghouls, zombies, werewolves, vampires, and such for Light City, but recently a commenter said I should do one class for all of those creatures. It's really a good idea, so now I give you The Cursed. This could work just fine in a traditional Swords & Wizardry Light game too. You can download The Cursed here. As with all Light City releases I do, it's pay what you want.

The Guild of Nefarious Purpose is Now Available

Gathered together by the villainous engineer Wasp, the Guild of Nefarious Purpose is a group of low to mid powered villains in Light City that bend together for support and friendship. They have a strict code they follow, not necessarily because they're good people, but because they know it keeps the pressure from the police and heroes from getting to be too much. You can download this new villain group for Light City here. It's pay what you want, so what have you got to lose?

The Guild is my take on Flash's Rogues, which to be honest is one of my favourite villain groups. There's a tribute to Flash on the cover. The public domain super Quicksilver, pictured on the cover would later because Max Mercury in DC, which is a part of the Flash family. Also in case your wondering, the name is a nod to the Guild of Calamitous Intent from Venture Brothers.

Light City: One Shot - The Super-Butler Available Now

The oddball classes for Light City keep coming. Today I released The Super-Butler! This is a definite support class. They can patch up their heroes (using the equivalent of cure magic), shrug off saving throws with a stiff upper lip, and even engage in fisticuffs. Their seventh level ability allows them to do some really interesting stuff, like don power armor or use exotic weaponry... temporarily. Think of this as an issue of Avengers that Jarvis has to put on Tony's armor or can wield Mjolnir to knock out Loki.

You can download Light City: One Shot - The Super-Butler here. Like all Light City material I release, it's pay what you want.

Halls of the Nephilim Plans For 2018

I'm setting some publishing goals for myself this year and I'm making them known to others because I feel it makes me more accountable for them. This is a list of the pdfs I want to release this year.

Light City Multiverse: Earth Zed - A Night of the Living Dead/Marvel Zombies inspired setting book for Light City

Legends of Light City: Suicide Kings - Super criminals turned heroes employed by the government... basically Light City's version of Suicide Squad.

Light City Foes: Kaiju - Giant monsters to destroy your city and give your heroes a run for their money. This will feature monstrosities like Konga and Gorgo.

Light City Tech and Gadgets - A treasure book for Light City which will include rules for trophies.

Cade Ashworhy's A-Z Guide to Alcohol - Those of you that read this blog regularly might remember Cade from 2016's April A-Z challenge. I would to compile my posts, clean them up, change the WOTC IP references, and release it as a 5E supplement.

Portsmaw Setting - Portsmaw is my Appalachia-inspired Swords & Wizardry Light setting. I've talked about this one a lot. I've been talking to folks about art for it and this is already in the works. +David Coppoletti will be helping out with this one. I'd really like to see this one in print somehow. If I'm really pleased with how things turn out, I might see if I can drum up interest I may try to Kickstart it. Not sure though because that's a big endeavor.
I’m sure I will release many more Light City pdfs this year, but the ones I mentioned above are definitely going to happen.

Nephil (Swords & Wizardry Light)

Last year I released my first pdf, The Nephilim for Swords & Wizardry Complete. You can pick up the pdf here for just $0.99. The pdf has player character stats for playing Nephilim, Nephil monster stats (as well as three variants), and magic items related to them. Here's conversion of the base Nephil to Swords & Wizardry Light.

Nephil

Towering over most mortals, nephil are the scorned descendants of angels and mortals. Despite their large size, the typical nephil just wants to be left alone. Most live in tribes in secluded valleys, forlorn forests, and isolated islands.

AC 15 [4]      HD: 6    Attacks: Great Club (2d6)  Special: immune to divine magic Move: 12

Slashers & Victims Light Available Now!

Hey folks, my free slasher movie love letter hack (pun-intended) for Swords & Wizardry Light, Slashers & Victims Light, is now available on RPGNow. Download it, look it over, and tell me what you think (on here and RPGNow).

I'm still working on the logistics, but I also plan to print copies to folks that request it. Each copy will also go out with a one of a kind slasher. I'm not saying there might not a bit of crossover with some of them, but I promise you they won't be identical. More on that to come.

This is me at the moment.
