Idle Hands Are The Devil's Playthings

Idle Hands is a 90's stoner horror flick, but it would be fodder for a session using 80's Horror - Tunnel of Terror.

If you are going to take a player's hand, I recommend giving them something to compensate. Perhaps they have 1 free inspiration use per day.

If characters die you can bring them back as zombies, like Pnub and Mick. Their creature type changes from Humanoid (Human) to Undead. They get a -2 to their Dexterity and Charisma scores. They gain Damage Immunity: Poison and Condition Immunities: Exhaustion, Poison. They also gain the following feature:

Undead Fortitude: If reduced to 0 hit points, the zombie must make a Constitution save with a DC of 5 + the damage taken, unless the damage is radiant or from a critical hit. On a success, the zombie drops to 1 hit point instead.

Strangely, despite their undead nature they can still get drunk and high (though they don't gain the poisoned condition) and charmed.

Now for the titular Idle Hand, I started with Crawling Claw stats and then beefed them up.

Character Creation Challenge - Day 12 (Ash Wednesday Edition)

Today's character was created by using 5th Evolution 80's Horror: Terror in the Tunnels. I've also not done an Ash Wednesday post in ages so I thought I'd combine the two. While I went ahead and gave him the axe and shotgun in stats, this is Ash at the beginning of the 1981 flick.

Addendum: I decided to link to this post, which itself has links to some great 5e Evil Dead content created by BenDjinn.

Name: Ashley J. Williams

Medium Humanoid (Human), Chaotic Good

Archetype: Guy Next Door
Armor Class: 12 (lucky)
Hit Points: 19 (3d8+2)
Speed: 30 ft.
Challenge: 1/4 (50 XP)

Str 10 (+0) Dex 11 (+0) Con 15 (+2) Int 10 (+0) Wis 12 (+1) Cha 12 (+1)

Saving Throws: Wis +3
Skills: Athletics +2, Insight +3, Survival +3
Senses: passive Perception 11
Languages: English

Actions
Last One Standing: Ash stabilizes and returns to 1 HP after being knocked unconscious. Can't be used again until after taking a long rest.
Unarmed Strike: Melee Weapon Attack +2 to hit, reach 5 ft., (one target), Hit: 1 bludgeoning
Axe: Melee Weapon Attack +2 to hit, reach 5 ft., (one target), Hit: 4 (1d8) bludgeoning
Shotgun (slug): Ranged Weapon Attack +2 to hit, range 40/80, (one target), Hit: 13 (3d8) piercing; heavy, reload (2 shots), heavy
Dash: Move 30 feet (can be done in addition to normal movement)
Disengage: Movement doesn't provoke attack of opportunity.
Dodge: Can focus entirely on avoiding attacks. Until start of his next turn, any attack against him is made at disadvantage and he makes Dex saving throws with advantage. Loses benefit if reduced to 0 HP or incapacitated.
Help: Can aid friendly creatures in attacking a creature within 5 feet of him. The first attack the ally makes before your next turn against the creature is rolled with advantage.

Equipment
Axe, shotgun, clothes, necklace for Linda, the Delta (1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale)

Background
Ash was just a normal college kid trying to spend some time in a cabin in the woods with his girlfriend, sister, and friends. That was until the pages of the damned book were read. That's when something evil was unleashed.

5th Evolution: Camp Timberwolf Kickstarter

Currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, 5th Evolution: Camp Timberwolf is the latest 5Evo project from Limitless Adventure.

5th Evolution books take 5e rules and put them in different settings. This is the second 5Evo 80's horror release. You can read my review of the first here. In Camp Timberwolf characters will take the role of camp counselors. They must solve a deadly mystery and keep their campers alive. The book will be 50 pages and include 24 encounters and a detailed map of the camp. In addition, like all 5Evo adventures it will start with a comic that sets up the scenario. This would make a great sourcebook/adventure for Dark Places & Demogorgons 5e (still seeking funding).

I'm a big fan of the 5Evo line and have all the books released for it. If you love 80's slasher horror, check this one out.

5th Evolution 80s Horror

5th Evolution: 80's Horror is a supplement that allows you to take D&D 5th edition rules and enter the realm of comic book and movie horror.

The book contains 34 pages of content. This is an adventure and rules supplement for 5th edition. You need the core books, basic pdf, or the srd to use it.

It starts with a  black and white comic book that sets up the game. It looks like the old school EC style and really sets the mood. The first page of the comic details the setting, 1985, and the horrors of the time. This is followed by a group of young people invited to a party by a sexy biker lady in leather. This party takes place in an old mine tunnel. Also the party is actually a cult ritual. Fun times!

Like other 5th Evolution books, the comic is followed by an adventure that picks up where the comic ends. However, right before the adventure is a quick 1985 primer, which includes a text box that discusses the Satanic Panic. In the adventure the party must find a way to defend themselves and escape the tunnel. During their escape they'll encounter zombies, a poisonous snake, and the Weiss (the horrific creature on the cover). The adventure itself is deadly and like the protagonists of 80's horror films, it's best for characters to flee. The adventure is followed by a page of equipment.

The adventure is followed by a horrific many bestiary. All the creatures come with stats, descriptions, and adventure hooks several also come with alternate versions. The monster section includes
  • Renfields (with Sherrif's Deputy Variant) - tough human antagonist
  •  Evil Clown - name says it all, also includes "Puddles" an evil poodle familiar
  •  Lesser Fiend - think Gremlins, Ghoulies, and Critters
  • Mummy - because magic is scarce, there's discussion altering mummy rot
  • Ochre Jelly-just like the Blob and the Stuff, there's also a doppelganger variant that makes it more like John Carpenter's The Thing
  • Re-animated Corpse - Frankenstien's monster
  • Slasher - everyone's favorite psychos, signature weapons are discussed
  • Vampire - the stat block says Vampire 5EVO, but I've not checked to see if it's different than the MM one
  • Werewolf - there's a sidebar that gives rules for making silver bullets
  • Zombie (with plague zombie variant) - braaaaaains
There's a one page discussion of making characters for 80's horror. Like the Carbide City book, players pick an archetype presented in the book. Each archetype has a variant. They are
  • Athlete/ROTC
  • Nerd/Goth Kid
  • Cheerleader/Shoplifter
  • Cool Kid/Clown
  • Girl/Guy Next Door/Scout
  • Tough Kid/Farm Kid
The book ends with the OGL.

Currently only backers of the Kickstarter (like me) have print copies, but you can pick the pdf here.

Update:
You can purchase print or pdf here.
