The newest issue of Dragon+ has a short Rat Queens 5E adventure written by series author, Kurtis J. Wiebe.

Rat Queens - Gary

I've said it before, but I love Rat Queens. It's definitely my favorite comic from the past 15 years or so. Writer Kurtis Weibe will be DM'ing a game on Twitch with the D20Babe starting next week. The link is here.

A special hardcover collection was released this week with a short comic about everyone's least favorite character, Gary. Kurtis decided to share it on Facebook for those of us not picking up the hardcover (I for one have every issue already). Enjoy.

Rat Queens Tabletop

Well folks, it looks like I'm going to need to learn to love Dungeon World. Last month Rat Queens writer Kurtis Wiebe tweeted that he's working on a Rat Queens rpg with Adam Koebel. You can read it here. Wiebe says it's using Dungeon World guts and Koebel is one of the creators of the system, so it sounds cool to me. While I don't know too much about Dungeon World, I've read good things. Narrative heavy games can be fun. They definitely make some of the outlandish feats that the Queens pull off easier.

Both of the above scenes would take way too many rolls to do in D&D or Pathfinder, which slows down the action. Yet from what I'm reading, Dungeon World could handle it with little problem.

#RPGaDay2015 - Getting Started and Catching Up

I like monthly blog challenges and things of that nature. +Dave Chapman @ Autocratik has created one and I'm going to take part (even though I'm a little late).

Day 1 - Forthcoming game you are most looking forward to -
Rat Queens! I don't know if it will come out, exactly what the rules will be but writer Kurtis Weibe has hinted that his fantastic comic Rat Queens will be getting the RPG treatment. If you've not read Rat Queens, do it now.

Day 2 - Kickstarted game most pleased you backed -
I haven't backed any brand new games, but I've backed more than a few gaming supplements. I think the one I'm most pleased with has been Dungeon Crawl Classics: The Chained Coffin. This boxed set is fantastic. Michael Curtis DCC love letter to Manly Wade Wellman is just fantastic.

Day 3 - Favorite new game of the last 12 months-
Okay so technically it's a new edition, but I'm still in love with the latest edition of Dungeons and Dragons.   For me it is the right amount of newer edition customization with that old school "we don't need a lot of stats" goodness.

Day 4 - Most surprising game -
I'm really surprised about how much I enjoy Fantasy Flight's Star Wars tabletop rpg's. Don't get me wrong I love Star Wars and Fantasy Flight makes beautiful books, but the new system they have seemed like it would be overly complex. In addition, games that use their own custom dice intimidate me a bit. However, I ran the beginner box adventure for Edge of the Empire and the game was actually really simple. I've picked up all three core rule books and hope to run it one day.

I LOVE THE RAT QUEENS!!!

There I said it.

I saw this random panel on Tumblr and immediately knew I'd love the series. 

Hands down, it is my favorite comic of the last few years (though I will say that Saga is exceptional too). I've previously mentioned the Queens here. The series is a darkly humorous and violent fantasy series with modern aesthetic.

If you don't mind vulgar language (often of a sexual nature) and drug references mixed with your swords and sorcery, then Rat Queens is the series for you. The first five issues are available int he collection, Sass and Sorcery.

I wanted to post some crunch about the comic, but I've decided to do it another time. I may even do a Rat Queens week, in which I stat the ladies out in different systems.

Rat Queens

"Who are the Rat Queens? A pack of booze-guzzling, death-dealing battle maidens-for-hire, and they're in the business of killing all gods' creatures for profit."

The series is a darkly comedic fantasy comic. The series is published by Image Comics and as of this post had four issues.  I'm going to be honest, I love these ladies. The group is led by the rockabilly elven wizard, Hannah. Muscle is provided by the dwarven hipster, Violet. Heals are provided by the atheist cleric, Dee (who's parents happen to worship a blood-drinking squid god). The party is rounded out by the sweet and cheerful (not to mention candy and drug loving) smidgen (think hobbit) rogue Betty. 

I've read all of the current issues and none of them have disappointed. Besides the Rat Queens themselves, there are other "mercenary groups" in the series, my favorite being The Daves, a four man adventuring party made up of men named Dave. 

The creator Kurtis J Wiebe has said this comic is more the fan's comic than his. He's encouraged like the comic's Facebook page for early info, behind the scenes stuff, and to share their fan art and cosplay. In the letters section of one of the issues he even asked people to write in discussing what edition of D&D they're playing and to talk about their characters. A few D&D/fantasy themed mixed drink recipes have been included in the letters section too.
